Dominique Thread!

Did I mention that my flock are all brothers and sisters, hatched together and are obviously living together? Would the roosters get along because they're brothers and grew up together even if tney're with their sisters?

In my experience, that doesn't matter. They'll still have issues.

With Dominiques I can run multiple cocks together but their are some rules followed to limit discord. First ample space with some structure where a lower ranking bird can break line of site with attacker. Secondly, more is better with several cocks, not just two or three. When no hens are involved you can be a lot more flexible with respect to how the cocks are kept. I can even bring multiple unrelated cocks together but odds are high they will have feathers dinged up more than desired for show purposes. The working out of hierarchy needs to be supervised. The doms I have are not as bad as some breeds and possibly even some hatchery strain doms where males are prone to engage in sperm competition which is hard on the hens that can become over mated. I have been doing the multiple cock flocks free-range but will soon be doing so in confinement where a coop is attached to a run of about 1,000 square feet. I have seen some dom flocks so kept that were used mainly for egg production.

Here are some pics of puddles! ( she is not broody, she just acts like it before she lays an egg.)

My dominique cockerel started crowing today, he's only 7 weeks old! Thought this was post-worthy :)
