Aren't they great! Welcome, I'm new to this thread too for the most part, I have 6 hens & 3 chicks that are doms, we've always loved themJust joining the thread. I've raised chickens for years but I'm brand new to Dominiques. I hadn't heard of them before joining BYC but loved what I read and put them on the "must have" list. I just brought home four 2yr old hens to join my flock for their retirement a few days ago, two of which are Dominiques and I'm already head of over heels for them.
I agree, (also I love Maine) we are in ny and the smaller the comb the better I agree, we keep Dominique's with rose combs, brahmas, Easter & olive eggers that all have pea combs, silkies.... Then we have orps, Sussex, barnevelders that have small straight combs, rocks & nh reds that have sort of various levels of straight comb... We just hatched a maran & we have a few mixes with various levels of straight comb... Lots of mix chicks that are so cute. The roosters and a couple hens with large combs got a bit of frost bite last winterThank you and YES! I can't get over how curious and cuddly these new girls are. I love heritage breeds to begin with, particularly those with small combs (due to being in Maine and the risk of frostbite) and doms are going to have a permanent place in my flock.

Oh, Faraday40 -- she's beautiful! Thank you for showing the pretty comb with leader(spike) and the U-shape back! If you only have one Dom she is as near perfect a specimen as one can have in my mind's eye!
Java - how appropriate! She is so lucky to have you and you're so blessed to have her! TY for giving her a good home and human fellowship!
