Dominique Thread!

Oh, Faraday40 -- she's beautiful! Thank you for showing the pretty comb with leader(spike) and the U-shape back! If you only have one Dom she is as near perfect a specimen as one can have in my mind's eye!

Java - how appropriate! She is so lucky to have you and you're so blessed to have her! TY for giving her a good home and human fellowship!

@Faraday40 , Bubbles truly is gorgeous!

@Sylvester017 , Java came from a wonderful home but came here for her retirement and I feel so blessed to have her! I was just about to walk out my door to pick up a few chicks when I saw that a few hens needed a home and they just happened to be one breed that I love and was looking to replace one I had recently lost (a SLW) and the Doms which I've wanted since I first saw them. I ended up taking home an unexpected fourth hen (BSL) because well - chicken math and one little (human) girl from their previous home who was very convincing. All these girls are so sweet.

I would love to say I totally know what gender they are but there aren't enough of them for me to say ok those are 'dark' or that's a clean spot and so on. I would love some opinions on what gender you think they are. I'm hoping for at least one boy and the ideal would be two boys and a girl so I had 2 to choose from but could still keep all 3 ;) I think the third one looks the most like a girl? What do you think?
Also I know that there's a gender section but this is breed specific and I feel like you're the group to ask! Thanks!

Humpf, I am not good at chick sexing, though it is supposed to be easy. (Depending on the line)

Some are just easier than others...... I would just wait for the feathers to start coming in. Light =male and dark=female.

Have you looked at this page yet? It has nice photos to help you guess.

As to the other question that was asked in regard to Dominique roosters. I have never had trouble getting an excellently tempered Dominique rooster that takes care of his ladies without messing up their backs, never even thinks of hurting my little children, and is even good with extra roosters that I toss into his pen in the off season.

I am sure you can get a bad one, but raise up 5, and you are guaranteed to have one winner in the bunch.

Only had to do buisness with one very gifted family to sort thru a real mess to find our heritage breed.Best rooster all our guests have ever seen, they always say there should be a sign hanging on run gate so people realize who he is. Kids (apa/aba) won best in show with his hens. The offspring are so tame they lay right in our hands. Teenagers never get enough credit they are SO strong yet very fragile.
I been trying to contact them again because his brother might have a special gift too, all a mom can do is hope. Can you imagine how awesome it must be to be their parents? Raising two gentle, respectful good men? Almost isnt fair. Sets the bar awfully high for slackers. Glad theres other moms who notice&respect it when they see it. Effort is a quality i admire greatly. Lol i can count a dozen familys who would love their teenage daughters to meet a young man like that i cant drag it all together kicken&screaming. Oh,sorry back to chickens
Easy to get mushy amidst all these anniversarys&hatches.

I think I may have 3 dominiques and 3 barred rocks. They all are very dark but two have very red peacombs. Thoughts?
