Geez. Would anyone like to comment on this?

Wow! You can tell our Dominique's wheel's are always spinning, trying to problem solve to get the best food, the better grass, the better ground, etc. It is a good & bad thing. She's not a cuddler like our Brahma or SLW but definitely would do the best if she got loose out of the 'Chicken Yard'. Definitely a good quality.

One of our roosters has come at me a time or two when I picked up a squawking hen or chick, but the other is super sweet, and even the one that came at me is normally very docile. In fact, the nicest of the two was the only chicken in the yard (including the hens) that would welcome our eight week old chicks into the flock. He is protective, and made sure they had a babysitter while they were still learning the ropes. The other was kind of uninterested in them - he had bigger fish to fry.

All in all, though our dom hens are very sweet, I'd have to say the roosters are even calmer and sweeter than the hens! No way as aggressive as RIRs!

FIRST EGG! (Bottom of pic- top of pic is from SLW)
We're thinking it's from our Dom.

Anyone know where i can find some Dominique hens in south east TN. My grandmother used to raise them and i have always liked them, she called the Domineckers.

Here is a couple of snapshot of my Doms. I just love them. Very calm birds, very easy to free range and easily coaxed back into their pen.

Actually all of my hens will eat baby snakes if they find them in the woods. I have Black Stars (they are very good snake catchers), RIRs, Australorps, and EE's. I have only seen an EE with a snake once, but the others catch them pretty regularly in the Spring. They find the snake, pick it up in the middle of it's body and run around for a while with all the other chickens in hot pursuit. Then they sort of slam it on the ground multiple times until it no longer wriggles. This goes on for a while because when they others catch up, they start running with it again. Once the snake is properly prepared, they just gobble the whole thing down like a giant strand of spaghetti. Great entertainment!
