Here is my first dom that made me fall in love with the breed- his/her name was Zipper. One of my favorite birds ever- just a lap doll - she was the sweetest, calmest, quietest, SWEETEST bird I have ever ever had.
I was not sure what she was when I got her, then I was not sure if she was a she or a he- but she was just wonderful. A raccoon took her right in front of me as I was chasing it and trying to run it off- city raccoons are the worst! They are not afraid of anything. Anyway, we still miss Zipper.
reading with my dad (who makes fun of me for babying my birds- so I made sure to snap a shot when he allowed Zipper up on his lap)
My new dom hen is also called Zipper
The kids named her. Her comb is goofey looking, it is nearly smooth, and compared to the pics you guys are sharing her tail looks funky-- BUT in her defense she had just hatched out and was rearing a nest of muscovy ducklings. She is the BEST mom, she has reared countless chicks for me. She has gone broody once (and hatched out the ducks too)- but She adopts chicks that she did not even broody, I have such a soft spot for maternal birds, and she just hears a chick cheep and she is on the job, she is wonderful- AND she is a sweetie too, and a good layer. I should take some new pics of her since she has molted and has not been mothering for a while, she looks much nicer now
