Dominique Thread!

Pics
Been messin around with several heritage breeds and the dominiques are quickly becoming my favorite. Although one of the cockerels is a bit aggressive toward my other cockerels and quite loud, the pullets, with their boxy frames, soft feathering and calm demeanor are among my favorites. They started out as day olds very flighty and would crowd into the corners whenever I came near but eventually grew out of it. They still scream bloody murder and fight to get away when I pick them up to work with them. Great foragers and cold hardy. When the rest of the flock wont leave the coop because of the cold, the Doms are out there facing into the wind digin and a scrathin away.

I agree! After researching and digging around for info on BYC, and having my own mixed flock, Doms are def my fave...not to mention that they're considered rare/unusual even though they are a true american breed.

NOW, as gallusfarm suggested, I've gotta find some Dom hens for my little man! Any suggestions...?

And has a cute name...

You seem to have a lot of Doms - how many do you have?

About forty, at least 3 birds (most as trios) from seven stocks. Sample sizes I have from each stock not large enough to be considered repressentative of any stock except for possibly the Voter strain, no other Voter strain birds appear to exist outside my flock. I very much would like to be proven wrong.

That's wonderful. I hope those Voter birds are under lock and key. Please breed what you have.

GallusFarm,

They have my most secure keeps devoted to them. Problem still exists that they repressent only a sample to the Voter strain. What I resurect will still be missing many of the potentially valuable genes Voter strain birds once had. To help with security issues, I have been sleeping out under stars over last couple nights to figure out how GHO is working around my coops.

Question fellow "Dominique-ans"

Other than being smaller than the standard, what would the chicks be like if I crossed a bantam Dom hen with a standard Dom roo? All I can find is bantam versions..
