Dominique Thread!

matt, do you have any photos of him from behind, walking away? Sorry

.

If he does have the best tail spread in the flock, breed him on as many hens as you can and keep the pullets with nice tails and breed them to your best typed roosters. From there you should have at least a handful of chicks with both tail and type (though that roo doesn't look too bad at all) and any other traits you try for along the way. I guess it just depends on how many eggs you can hatch

Your SO will think you're nuts, trust me.

Just keep culling and breeding to the standard. Try to cancel the faults out of your flock with selective breeding. Also, find males and females that share common GOOD traits - like a nice tail spread, nice short back, etc. and breed them together to cement that into the offspring.

We are all on this road, it is long and rocky but we will get there!

Proud new owner of 6 Dom chicks. Looks like 3 roos and 3 pullets. They are the friendliest chicks I've ever raised. They run to your hand and enjoy cuddling in it. No pix because the it's so hard to take them with the heat lamp on.

I agree it is mainly Dominique how ever the comb is
Not a Dominique comb I swear looks like it's one of it's parents looks
Like it was Crele Orpington or a creme legbar not saying
That's it just throwing that out there

Hi Gallusfarm,

We haven't seen you on here for a while. How did your hatch turn out from NYReds? We're all anxious to see pictures!

Well it just so happens I was about to finally post some pics. Thanks for asking. Up until now they looked like, well, chicks. They were hatched on Apr. 28th. We ended up with 11 pullets and 7 cockerels.
