I do understand people do eat silkies but in my case I have to many silkies as pets. I would never eat them but I do eat chicken from the store so what will be will be. I would be apoplexy to hear someone ate their silkies that they raised. My silkies are bantam size so there is hardly no meat per say. God made us all different so........................ I am not putting anyone down don't misunderstand its just my opinion and we all have one.

Now, I've never eaten a silkie (nor do I plan to, they're too rare in these parts), but I do have a question. What is the difference between eating a silkie and an old english game, for example? Or any other breed? They're all chickens.

You say you eat chicken from the store. Did you know that those chickens are raised in awful conditions and butchered at seven weeks when they are still babies? I don't see how that is better. Just my take.

Yes they are all chickens. In reference to the store bought, I would imagine if I saw the conditions they were raised in, I would sneak in at night and let them all out. Thanks for your opinion.

So why do you eat them, then? And why is it wrong to eat silkies more than any other chicken? I'm not trying to offend...just trying to figure this out.

And, they wouldn't be able to get out even if you did try to let them out. They grow so fast and are so fat at those factories they can barely walk. They have many health problems - just look up Cornish X, you'll see what I mean.

Most don't eat their pets. Nobody eats another's pet. As for eating my own birds, I can and will continue to do so. They are not pets nor were they raised to be one. Some say don't eat pork. Others worship cows. What others do is their prerogative. Where I have issues is on the very preposterous notion that if I don't believe in another's belief I somehow will be punished by that belief. You can imagine my bewilderment when working with a group of South Americans and one found I did not believe in God and became very distraught? told me I'd go to his hell? Beliefs and opinions are never a problem if kept unto their owners. When proposed as absolutes they can cause war. It's never the belief that's the culprit rather it's presentation of a treatise or a dictate that becomes the problem.

I think we have enough food options that we don't need to kill and eat such little creatures, it is a delicacy to some and some eat dogs

I try not to judge because I'm not in their shoes

Interesting discussion though

Its just that I raised my silkies and they are my pets but store bought I didn't raise them or see them before they were processed and I didn't see the horrible conditions they live in. If someone wanted to eat their silkies or any other breed, it is there choice and maybe they raised them for that. It was just my opinion thats all. Everyone eats different things

Have you seen the guinea pig farms ??
People " farm " them and eat them , my girls cried for weeks over that

I think store bought chicken is just " normal" for us , it's how we were raised.

Yeah, I get it. I don't plan on eating silkies for a couple reasons, they aren't common around here and the small size doesn't make it worth it to me. Still, I don't think there is anything wrong with it! I'd just rather use a different breed for meat.

I get the pet thing (I don't eat pets either) but really, so what if you didn't see the conditions the factory birds were raised in or them before they were butchered? How does that make you feel better? Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean it isn't happening!

Again, this is not meant to offend!
