Don't know what breed or gender you have? Click here!

Hello. I adopted a chick from a friend when it’s siblings didn’t make it. They had no idea the breed or sex. He’s a roo, and definitely a bantam. But I have no idea what breed. He is very handsome and smooth.

I’m sorry, I should have been clearer. I was looking for any guesses as to breed and gender. They’re starting to differentiate on combs, now, so I can take new pictures when I get back out there. I think it’ll be more obvious who is what.
This was sent to me yesterday:

LOL As you can see, the combs are… pretty noticeably different now from one bird to another.

I’ll be there and handling them, so I can take better (close, no bars) pictures of their body type and coloring this coming week or the next.
Since you already know the breed of their father, I'm guessing you want to know the breed of their mother. Could you post pictures of the father and possible mothers?

As for gender, any chicks with bright red combs at that age are most likely cockerels.

Thanks for any input
What kind of comb does the first one have? The second one, which is a cockerel, looks like a cream legbar mix, possibly mixed with easter egger.

Does he have feathered legs?

I have 2 4-month old pullets from Ideal. One is a Sumatra, the other, “Thailand” (their version of Thai game). When I got them, since both were black chicks, they marked the face of the Sumatra with purple marker. As they grew, I kept track of which was which and put a band on the Sumatra.

Now they have very different appearances, but I wonder if I mixed them up at some point, because the one thought was the Sumatra looks more like a game Fowl, and the one I thought was the Thailand looks... well, like not a particularly great example of anything.

So, pullet 1, supposedly Thai

Pardon the poor quality shots. I was trying to bribe them with one hand and shoot with the other.

What do you think? I love pullet 2's type regardless of whether she's a good, bad, or indifferent example of... whichever breed she is, and pullet 1 has some of the traits, like heavy iridescence, that I want too. I'm not displeased with either one, but I'd like to know if I mixed up their identification.

Does my 14 week old Lavender Ameraucana pullet look like a boy to you? Her Swedish Flower Hen sister ended up being a brother so I'm crossing my fingers I'm just paranoid. I've never had Ameraucanas before this.

At 14 weeks, he is a cockerel. His comb is red and prominent for such a young age.

Thank so much for the response. I'm sad. I just had to get rid of a Barnevelder roo because i had 3 boys. Looks like i have 3 boys again.

Do you mean red for an Ameraucana? This was my SCH at 12 weeks. He's already crowing and mounting like a crazy man while the other is pretty timid which is why I was hopeful.

I'm sorry to hear you had to rehome 3 cockerels already. Ameraucanas are generally late to mature which is why the pullet's comb won't usually redden until 30 weeks of age. I wouldn't rehome him yet, just in case. Could you snap a clearer, closer pick where the saddle feathers should be? You should notice pointy saddle feather development at this age if he is a cockerel.
