I also had purchased chicks at a store. They were in an orphington bin. I was adding some new breeds. So I got 2 buffs and 2 blacks. Well after a week I thought they may be barred rocks. But now I'm not so sure. The legs aren't yellow and the markings aren't barred. Any ideas?

Ah, combined bins! I do believe you have two cuckoo Marans pullets. The hatchery ones don't have leg feathers.

Hi, I was wondering if someone could tell me what breed one of my hens is, she's 10 weeks and I'm not sure if she's a barred rock or Dominique.

Still working on the Cackle Mystery chicks I have two like the first pics - these were not obvious polish but have suddenly sprouted funny little crests, much like my cream legbars did last year. But the coloring is black and white/ silver. Maybe a silver laced polish? But why the sudden crest and not the poof the others had from the beginning?
The second - I have no idea. It's not a color pattern I am familiar with. She is very friendly and nosy (so probably a he!!) but hates the camera so all my photos are of her running away Thank you for the help!

Barred rock based on the single comb. Dominiques have a flat/ cushion type comb. Looks dark with dark legs like a pullet, though.

Your pullet is a Barred Rock. Dominiques have rose combs.

Doms have a rose comb, your chick has a single. With the yellow skin, I'd expect it's a barred Rock.
