I'm hoping both these are pullets but one of them went toe to toe with my pug this morning (the pugs are trained to leave the chickens alone and I was right there so watched the whole thing) - the chick got all defensive and aggressively began guarding the others. Makes me a little nervous that what I thought was a she may be a he.

They look like female Leghorns. A chicken recognizes a dog as a predator and will be wary of them. That's about survival, not gender. In an all-female flock, you often see the alpha female display roosterly behaviors.

Where did you get them?

ETA:
I did the math, they're 11 weeks old. That makes me more sure they're all pullets. The red with the white tail looks like a sexlink. So, assuming you went to a farm store that buys from a hatchery, 100% sure it's a pullet. The picture isn't sufficient to evaluate combs or look for emerging rooster feathers but the patterning looks female on all 3.

I'm thankful for your opinion cause I was worried. Based off their behavior they go after each other all the time like they're fighting to be the boss but inside the coop they're fine. Is the normal for pullets? The poor little Dominique just sits there and watches, though it is kind of funny to see her stay out of it.

They're at the pecking order stage. You have two vying for lead while the third is not as ambitious. They'll sort it out and as long as nobody is being injured, it's all normal.

Any guesses as to breed? Hatched some time early this morning. Has a bit of red in the black around it's face and whitish (light yellow?) tips on it's wings. We're hatching olive egger, easter egger, black copper marans, & barnyard mix from a local breeder.

I have an EE pullet who looked just like that as a chick. Could also be a mix. Or something else. She is adorable!

The first looks like a female, the second a boy
