Do's and dont's for a "living room" coop? Building housing indoors?

chicken belong outside!!!...give me one good reason you would want chickens inside your house!!??????????

I'm an old, single woman, live in a OLD house - eccentric as they come - ALL about the animals. Even I can't have chickens in the house beyond a few weeks. They really are unbelievably "dusty" critters. If you do manage to survive with 3 chickens in the house, I would LOVE to hear how you do it.

This is the only way you can live in a house with chickens

omg:gig you are pulling our leg right? I mean there out side animals, poop all over and make messes. There grass eating, poop making birds we love but not in the house. It's not clean it's not good for the animal and not good for your health either... But you were only joking right?

I am new to chickens, but I can say, I have a african gray parrot, and because of him, I have to dust the heavy white powder dust off everything at least every other day and that is pushing it. The feathers get everywhere, food, dirty water etc. Someone was chatting me up one day and a feather flew right on her face

and that is just one bird. And even he has a smell, dirty birdie!

Do a search for "indoor" chickens. You will find a few threads. There are people that have chickens that live in the house.

They are like all animals that live with people, you need to keep them clean, their litter picked up and you need to wash hands after handling them. Just like with dogs, cats, gerbils, parakeets........

Birds much larger than chickens live in the house. Many parrots are larger than some chickens.

Just because 30 people tell you no, that does not mean that you cannot do it. DO read all their reasons because there may be some that you have not thought of yet.

Birds in particular do create a large amount of dust due to their feathers and due to scratching in their litter.

Do what is right for you and what pleases you. Dog exercise pens make very nice indoor cages for a small number of birds.

Yes, I have indoor chickens. They are Seramas, they are small. They lay eggs, crow, cackle, scratch, eat, drink and poop, mate and act just like all chickens do.
