I'm so sorry

It hurts so bad when we lose them. I lost my 27 year old horse this week, I'd had her almost nine years. It's so strange to look out in the field and not see her so I know how you feel.

I hope all of the eggs hatch and his son grows into an equally beautiful bird.

As for what could have done it, my guess would be a raccoon. I had raccoons kill a whole pen of chickens one night. They pulled them through the wire and only took the head/neck. I hope you get whatever killed him.

so sorry for your loss he was really pretty

i could not amagine what i would fell like if i went outside to feed my chickens and peafowl and my pied peacock was dead. i hope that you catch what ate him

We just drove over to my grandma's to check on the peas. All of them are roosting except for Ice who is still nesting. Luckily Ice is nesting in the smaller pen attached to the big pen and the smaller pen is made out of dog pens we got at lowe's. The metal bars are really tough and the top is all tarp so it is a more secure pen for her to be nesting in than the larger one.

Oh Minx, I'm so sorry for this... I think Dragon was my favorite to see pictures of and hear stories from on these forums...

It was almost certainly a raccoon... when we first got fowl we had major problems with them reaching through chain link and pulling heads through, or waiting for curious birds to stick their heads through to see what the raccoon was doing. They got in once in the very very beginning and they killed a LOT of birds- and then only ate the heads/crops of the birds! I felt like you... if you are going to kill my birds, at least do it for a good reason, for food! They also like to pry at wire and can squeeze through small spaces to get into pens, and they can be very determined. We ended up putting chicken wire on the outside of the fencing and wiring it to the fencing anywhere the coons could reach or peas could stick their heads out. We shoot on sight any coons we see, though the dogs at the farm seem to keep them away most of the time.

Again... I wish a wish could turn back time for you... Dragon was certainly a beautiful bird, and I think all of us will miss him. I hope your other peas stay safe and that you can kill what got Dragon.

Any day now. Ice was off the nest a few minutes yesterday I got to see all three eggs. They look good and there aren't any ants around the nest. She got back on the nest and was turning the eggs.

Well the good news is my dad just happens to be a coon hunter. We like raccoon hunting but haven't done it in a while and sadly my dad no longer has any coon dogs.
