Dragon was Killed EDIT: Pip Killed

We re-did it with wire.

Also my dad set up a wire snare there too so if anything tries to go in that way again it will kill em'.

Put something (straw bales, corn stalks, anything) around the sides of the trap so they don't see it as a box sitting there. Then a raccoon is more likely to enter. I am not surprised the zip ties all broke, I can attest to the fact that a heavy snow load will break a bunch in a row. The wire from the fencing cuts through them. I really hope you get whatever it is, that has got to be a lot of stress and worry for you! I can only send hugs... I am so sorry that this is happening.

Poor Alto! If it doesn't look infected (hard to see through the feathers from here) it is probably best to let it heal naturally. If you need to put something on it, don't put straight hydrogen peroxide, mix it 50-50 or less with water. You can also wash with fresh water alone and apply a triple anti-biotic without painkillers.

Definitely consider getting some hardware cloth or chicken wire and wiring it to the bottom 3' or so of the pen walls (the chicken wire will let them see through the pen walls). The cattle fencing you already have is good for keeping them in, but not as good for keeping coons out. The chicken wire has small enough holes the birds can't get their heads through (or get their heads PULLED through) and little coon hands can't really get through either. I hope you find out what is doing this and end it.

yes my pens with the 2x4 wire, i make sure birds can't roost next to the wire, had a great horn owl take chicken like that, sure because set trap with the dead chicken, caught the owl within a hour.

we use it too an when amy made her nest next to the fence i wired cages on the outside of the fence so nothing could reach in an grap her.i have had coons an owls do it.

Coons are sneaky and persistent if they find an easy meal. they can climb well and reach in after things when they are sleeping. My neighbor and I put out traps, snares, leg traps all kinds of stuff.... only caught their cat in the humane traps.

The coons would try and roll the cages etc,..... finally got rid of them by other means then got great Pyrenees dogs to protect everyone....

Sorry for your loss Mini! He was a beautiful bird. It sounds like a coon is your predator. He should come back soon after its dark. I hope you kill him! He will be back everynight until you do.
