Dragon was Killed EDIT: Pip Killed

Thank you, I will let you know but we still need to solve our predator problem before getting any more peafowl.

Okay I just uploaded the raccoon pictures, both are big raccoons and one of them got in the darn trap and the trap didn't work!

Some of the pictures might be hard to see what is going on. This is the area were we found Dragon dead and Pip was found dead by my mom in the same place Dragon was found dead.

This is a big raccoon!

You can just barely make out a raccoon in the background walking by the oak tree were I spotted a opossum the first night we spent the night.

Here is the evil little raccoon gang. Just so you can get an idea of how big they are, that trap is a coyote trap not a smaller trap.

The raccoon is now inside the trap with the other one maybe chewing on something to the right.

Now he is turning around in the trap. The darn trap didn't close!

I am not sure if there are raccoons in this picture, but if you look at those palm fronds inside the pen they are moved and look different than in the other pictures. that post is were the raccoons are chewing the netting to come in.

Well now you know where they are coming from so I would put 2 traps that work there! Those dang animals, I am sorry I really hope you catch them....

if you can tell you dad to build a little wire cage like 4in x4in then put the bait in it an tie it to the top back of the cage.or what i do is put stinky bait in there to get them there then take a piece of frozen boneless chicken breast drill hole in it an tie it to the back of the trap.makes them fight with it to geat the food an makes them trip the trap.i would also hide the trap a little put a bunch of bruch around it an over it.i hope you get them.

I am so sorry about Dragon & Pip

Those are really big coons. My grandad was a coon hunter his whole life & took his dogs to a lot of trials. He always said they were smarter than people gave them credit for. He had a lot of stories about sneaky coons that had been treed outsmarting the dogs & getting away. He had several of those traps like yours & always baited them with sardines or cat food.

I wish ya'll lots of luck with putting a stop to them soon

I just found out about Pip! I am sorry for such horrible week you are having.
I hope you catch those sneaky killers, and no mercy with them. And I wish you the best with finding a way to keep the rest of your birdies safe
Good Luck!

Minx , yes racoons and great horn owls , both can take peafowl, your dad made be right if a coon try to take them out of a tree, they may get away.

I had to keep trays set 24/7 to keep racoon number down........i have lost so many to racoons. try electric fence around the pens. Smaller wire like weld wire or hardware help, but sad thing about racoons, if around pens long they find way in, even can open doors and gates , electic fence on outside of pen your best .

Make sure the traps trigger is working good and rebait. They will be back and have already seen that the trap is not too bad. Tie in the bait like Jimmy said and they will pull on it and spring the trap. There is no sub for a good great pyreneese.
