Draining a swollen belly Qs

Oh ok. Thank you. I meant to call our farm supply and see if they had baytril today :/

I don't think I'll be getting hatchery chickens again- this is too heartbreaking.

Update: I took her to the vet- he drained off 1.5 liters :( she's half the size she was (poor girl). Definitely ascites- most likely causes by reproductive issues. Now that the fluid is gone there is an obvious mass in there.

I elected to continue supportive care until she is no longer comfortable. My hope is to just have her occasionally drained and she can live a long happy life otherwise.

It's just odd, and maybe someone can explain, Sunday I was holding her and she felt totally normal...today, Thursday, the mass is HUGE and totally obvious. How did it get that large in just a few days??

It may have been hidden by the fluid, or if she is still laying the pressure may have blocked an egg from coming out. I am glad that it was taken care of, that is a lot of fluid. Keep a close eye on her so that next time it happens you can nip it in the butt as quickly as possible. Keep her warm tonight she may need it. Thank you for the update, I wish you the best of luck with the girl that stole your heart.

I guess I'll make it a point to pick her up daily. Because she went from perfectly fine- to almost dead in 5 days. Sunday she was lethargic, which is why I was picking her up. I cuddled her for awhile because I was showing her off to my guests- there was no discernible swelling. Monday afternoon she was really swollen.
Well now that i know whats going on I won't let it get that bad- if I notice her acting odd, ill just take her in.

I am so thankful for BYC!!! Thank you everyone who responded to me- you'll never know how grateful I am!
