Drake phallus prolapse (graphic pic)

OyVey!!!
I'm not generally squeamish, but this almost has me gagging with skin crawling.
...and another good reason not to have ducks.

So, infection following injury?
Ducks penis is only for reproduction, not for urination?
They can live fine with it amputated?

Sorry for 'off' topic @Xxxdoombunny .

Yeah it's only for reproduction. Im guessing here got injured, then infected by the time we saw it, but no signs of pain or anything.

I didn't amputate. Just a hole in the side right now where the stuff squeezed out. He's relaxing right now. I'll let him rest, then give him a cool bath later in the tub.

Thanks.
Could it retract before infection is cleared and infect the 'inside' of him?
<shudders> Poor Dude.

It might have. Not certain. I'm just hoping to fix him up. I was in contact with a vet, and honestly that couldn't do much more than what I just did. Hopefully he relaxes and drinks his water. Take that back, as I type this, he's eating some grubs i gave him.

Have you read this case story on PoultryDVM about a duck with this same issue, and how it was fixed? http://www.duckdvm.com/cases/johnny
Thanks for the read, I think this is slightly different, being a repeat prolapse issue. Turns out mine had an infection from an injury. Hope it doesn't have to go the amputation route.
