drake prolapse

And I don't mean to contradict Holly but you could try a visit and see how it goes, I know here sexual activity is over and done for this year so maybe the 2 boys will be fine together. only way to know it to try when you can watch and if the other drake tries anything get him out. As long as your peened drake can see everyone he'll be fine, and most likely with the time of year it is you may not have to keep him peened as long. Watch your ducks are they still mating? if not then give him a good month by himself then put him with the rest. If no mating is going on then he can't relapse.

Thanks Miss Lydia for your input also. It's nice to hear a few different views. I'm not sure how the mating is. I know I haven't seen much of it but I haven't spent a lot of time out with them either. But tom I will try to see if he will be o.k. with a male ducky friend. I'm not sure if I will have the time though because my poor kitty got caught in that trap I had set for the skunks. He somehow survived and I brought him to the vets and they kept him. Hopefully he will be able to come home tomorrow and I'm sure he will need lots of attention and special care. But when I get the chance I will try and see how the boys are together.

Sorry to hear about your kitty. I hope it makes a full recovery. And don't worry to much about your drake right now, as long as he can see everyone he'll be fine till you have time to see if he can have company. Might not work anyway, your just giving it a try to see.

Thanks. He's still at the vet's and i'll be able to bring him home tomorrow. He doesn't seem to have any major problems other than his eye but I don't think he will be blind or anything. I will try him with one of the calmer boys and see, maybe my runner drake.

Let us know how it goes, and good news about kitty too.

It didn't go well with the drakes. So for now he's kept penned up and sometimes during the day when the flock is out in the fields I let him out for a little bit to bathe in the kiddie pools and enjoy a little bit of freedom. My kitty is home now. He stayed an extra day at the vet's. He's doing great but his eye worries me and a few other things too, so I will be making a call to the vets tomorrow with all my questions and observations.

Well you tried, all you can do. Sorry kitty is still having some problems.

My Pekin drake is currently dealing with this. I just noticed it today and have him separated. I'm going to make sure it stays clean and moist and maybe try some coconut oil (which also helps with bacteria). Hopefully it will heal up quick. :fl

My drake had a prolapsed and every time I pushed it back in it just came back out. I eventually gave up and let him go. He never seemed to be bothered by it. It was like that for months and it never turned black or got infected. Unfortunately I had to downsize my Drake’s because of my girls getting beat up by them. So I don’t know the outcome. I mentioned it to my new vet and she said it would’ve needed to Be surgically removed.

Yeah, I think it has to get removed if it gets infected really bad. But they grow new ones LOL. I'm trying to makes sure my drake's stays clean and I'm putting coconut oil on it, and keeping him away from the girls until it heals. I ordered some fix amoxicillin to use as an antibiotic just in case.
