It’s going to take some serious mental preparation, but his health and safety are paramount. I can’t risk that just because I’m feeling squeamish.

All finished. It was nerve-wracking, but I managed to get a clean cut. My only concern is that he withdrew the remaining portion all the way inside before I was able to completely stop the bleeding and apply antibiotic ointment. I covered the area around his vent with ointment instead, so hopefully that does the trick for now. He seems content and is drinking plenty of water, but hasn’t eaten yet.

Great job! It is likely he is simply stressed, but you'll want to monitor his feed/water intake for the next few days. If you wish to start antibiotics you can refer to my previous post earlier. Glad to hear the phallus receded.

Thank you! You have been a tremendous help. I ordered the antibiotics earlier this evening, but they’ll take 7-10 days to arrive, so I might try to find something comparable locally as a precaution. If he develops an infection, a week is a long time to wait to treat it.

Hi there, my poor Rudy is having similar troubles. I was just about to make a similar post but perhaps you could help me out. Do you know if bumpy was able to poop around his dangling dingle throughout this ordeal? I've been reading all sorts of posts tonight but that topic doesn't seem to come up.

Rudy only has a couple of inches out and I caught it early enough that I was able to keep it moist so it's still looking pretty healthy. It's a little pink but no dead tissue so there doesn't seem to be any need to get snippy just yet, but I'm concerned that he's not been pooping since I put him into isolation about 30 hours ago.

Not sure if the prolapse is potentially just a symptom of an intestinal blockage or if not pooping is a symptom of the prolapse.

Following recommendations from some other threads, I filled his tub with warm water, Epsom salt, and a splash of mineral oil tonight. Hopefully, that manages to help loosen things up and the morning will bring a closed vent and dirty tub.

Thanks! Bumpy seems to be doing much better this morning. I let him swim in the bathtub while I cleaned his cage and he was definitely enjoying himself. Yesterday he just floated around, looking miserable.

Regarding the issue Rudy is experiencing, I would recommend taking him to a vet if you’re able to. Bumpy has continued having regular bowel movements throughout his ordeal, and it’s very concerning that Rudy hasn’t had any in 30+ hours. How much is he eating and drinking?
