Drakes Penis isn't going back inside him

One of my drakes had this problem, the vet had to remove it. Ouch. He recovered fine. Make sure he's not mating females, and nobody's picking at it. That's that my vets advice was until surgery day.

Thanks for replying... your poor little lad. Did removing it have any side effects to activity level, temperament etc?

Okay, well the Baytril should keep his penis from getting infected, so that's good! How red is it?

It looks pink bordering on red. it's hard to describe the colour really. I did try to get picture but he wouldn't stand still!

this may not be reasonable but is there some way you could put it back in and tape it with a compression bandage over it so it would stay in? I know the females do everything out of their vent. I don't know about drakes so pardon me if that was a stupid thing to say.

yes they have plenty of water to play in all day. just been to the vet and they said it could be related to this bacterial infection he's had.

they have piped it back in and put a couple of stitches in to try and help it heal. He is already on antibiotics so that's covered.
If it stays in over the next couple of days all is good , if not they will amputate.

I had to trim off the dead end of my Drakes penis and he is fantastic now a Still breeds my Hens.
