Just to keep the thread active, I did this one yesterday! I was about ready to quit at the beginning because I was so unhappy with it, but I just kept pushing and for once I'm very happy with the turn out. I love painting on wood!

If you wouldn't mind a suggestion? I think it would REALLY pop if you did a thin wash of a dark color behind the head. A dark green or even just a grey would give a ton of contrast to the white feathers. Just water it down the further away it is until it's back to plain wood.

Meant to say, good on you for pushing through and ending up with such a nice image. I've noticed that you really nail the eye, giving it life.

I scrapped a few attempts yesterday, finally ended up with a sketch of my pullet Salem that I'm happy with. I'll have to scan it in later.

I finished the painting that I thought I would have had finished weeks ago but I ended up not finishing until today.

Here is a close up of the face.

And here it is from a distance, the comb and waddles look pinkish though since I had to use a flash for this pic.

Looks great!! I had a really hard time getting the colours of the wattles right in mine, I usually end up mixing in just a tid bit of white, yellow, and dark down in with the red until I get it right. Good job on the comb as well!
