Just to keep the thread active, I did this one yesterday! I was about ready to quit at the beginning because I was so unhappy with it, but I just kept pushing and for once I'm very happy with the turn out. I love painting on wood!
If you wouldn't mind a suggestion? I think it would REALLY pop if you did a thin wash of a dark color behind the head. A dark green or even just a grey would give a ton of contrast to the white feathers. Just water it down the further away it is until it's back to plain wood.
I finished the painting that I thought I would have had finished weeks ago but I ended up not finishing until today.

And here it is from a distance, the comb and waddles look pinkish though since I had to use a flash for this pic.
Looks great!! I had a really hard time getting the colours of the wattles right in mine, I usually end up mixing in just a tid bit of white, yellow, and dark down in with the red until I get it right. Good job on the comb as well!
