Dried mealworms

I just read that dried mealworms may be bad for my birdies. What are your guys opinions on this? I would hate to take away a treat they love so much, but if they are bad for them is rather they be health. I mean I can find another treat for them.

I give dried mealworms as a treat. Not very often and not very much... just a treat.

It's that they're like 50% fat and only have fat and protein as nutrients. Small occasional amounts are fine

Can you provide a link? I'll agree with the posts above, that it is fine as a treat.

Insects are an excellent part of chicken diets that they actively seek out when they are free ranging. I'd have no idea why they'd say it was bad for them.

i give mine dried mealworms a few times a week and a dried bug/fish daily and my vet agrees that it is fine

It’s illegal to feed dried mealworms here in the UK - not sure why this is though

Nothing wrong with them IMO, just don't feed excessive amounts of them.

Black Soldier fly larvae are another option that's similar, though I find them more gross to handle since they're larger.
