Can we a get picture of the hen, her vent, and any poop/discharge? Have you been able to get a calcium supplement into her to help with any possible egg laying issues?
I call the epsom salt bath "spa day" at our homestead. I use a cup of epsom salt and a few drops of garlic essential oil. I do this when I see bald spots, poopy butts, or red swollen vent or pre-prolapsing vent signs. Make the water high enough to cover the feet but not too much farther, as you can sit her down in it comfortably. Use a cup to poor the warm water over her. I temp mine to around 95-102. Keep her in there for at least five minutes. While she is there you can inspect under wings, and wash the vent. You will see the activity as you pour the warm water over it. They kind of let you know when they are done. Then I keep them in a carrier with a non tipping dish of food crumbles and water to see what the next few poops look like. By that time you will have all the clues you need. If you feel a bulge around her bottom, be careful not to press to hard but just massage very gently, as if she is eggbound, a broken egg inside her isn't great. Hope everything works out well for you.
Oh shoot. We will let it be experimental, as long as she seems strong enough to stand. We will see. Thanks for all the help. This was/is our first medical problem since having chickens. We made it two years without so much as a hiccup.Glad to hear she is perking up a little. She might enjoy being outside a little and seeing the flock, but do be careful about the others deciding she is an easy target. I once had a weak chicken outside to sunbathe for a minute and had to go back inside to answer the phone, when I came out a few minutes later half the flock had found her spot and had circled her and were just relentlessly pecking her
Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
