An update.
I'm very sorry, I've had a lot going on, and felt like I was not having much success.
I was never able to remove the plug myself, though I kept soaking and trying to work it out. Maybe I was too gentle. I don't know. But I did get white creamy looking stuff seeping around the plug. It got smaller day by day. Today it is gone. She's still a little rough looking, but the eyelid opens and closes and I can see eyeball and eyelid.
Now the complicating part. I had something ELSE break out in the flock. Clicking breathing, sneezing, making choking sounds, watery eyes, lots of nasal discharge. It was difficult because of the hurricane, but I found a bottle of Tylan 50. I started dosing orally (not much meat to inject into) .3 ml twice a day. The bigger chicks weigh about a pound and a half, and I think that dose is for 2 pounds. I dosed the one with the eye plug at the same time and almost the same amount, though she is smaller. They got 10 doses and I stopped.
They were much improved, but not 100%. The eye plug was smaller and scab-like, still draining a bit. The respiratory was down to an occasional sneeze and not much else. I don't have a way to weigh them accurately, but they are eating CONSTANTLY, drinking water, gaining muscle, enjoying being outside on nice days, taking dust baths, eating weeds and bugs. I keep feed down all the time, they are warm and protected from drafts in the garage.
I wanted to get back on here and make sure I should stop the Tylan since they were not 100% but I was concerned about their kidneys, overdosing, etc. Anyway, they are even better today. They've been off antibiotics 4 days btw.
I'm keeping the sick ones isolated from the rest of the flock. At least when they hopefully are safe to reintroduce, they will be going in together, so that's an advantage, really.
I'm not sure if I should be doing anything else, and I hope I did the right thing with the Tylan.
