Dual purpose chickens?

I use a kill cone. Use razor sharp knife slit the throat. Uses gravity and pumps the blood from the bird. The are gone in seconds. Use a drill plucker. And when I have alot and feel lazy I drop them to the Amish guy up the road he does them buck fifty a bird gutted and in a neat bag for the extra fifty cents he will quarter them for me...so more than five birds...

Very good options but before you do it... If you will do the messy work defeathering, cleaning and cutting you might want to let the birds clear their systems first so there's less food and poop and get them extra hydrated possibly for less mess.

;) The thought just crossed my mind... What if they get 24 hours of only rosemary sage oregano thyme and basil soup... :lau:gig

Those are great prices!

I use a cut up traffic cone as my kill cone. I slit the jugular (on the side under the ear- not the windpipe in front of neck) with an old school exacto knife (like a silver metal pen with the blades that slip in and the barrel end screws to tighten the blade).
Using a traffic cone is a great idea! I fashioned mine out of some extra tin I had laying around.

When I cull a bird I shoot it in the head. I have a .22 hand gun and it does the trick. I catch the bird and shoot it point blank. There is no flopping or running around. I find this to be the most humane but only if you have a gun!

This is a great idea. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me before! I have a .22 rifle that would work perfect. I can kill a grouse from 100yds, why not a chicken?!
