d'Uccle Cult

Hey can't remember if I've asked yall this before or not...but do yalls d'uccles act like they are starving ALL the time!?
I mean they are so aggressive with food, treats etc! The others cannot even get a bite unless I put them up - especially at treat time!
Yes!! Mine are definitely the early birds searching for worms! I think they are just smarter than the others and learn/notice when something is up for grabs!

Whats the low temps where you guys are at, especially at night? I have an un-insulated coop, and we are going to go from 60-70s to 16 overnight later this week. Worried about the cold temp, but also the 50+ degree instant drop.

Tempted to bring them inside, but would rather keep them out in the coop w the chicken heater. Those only heat the environment to about 40 degrees, but without insulation, i Don't think the heat will hold.

We've been dropping to the 20s at night and mine cuddle puddle with the bigger Satins so they don't even go to the heater in the coop.
They definitely are smart that's for sure! They laid their first egg in the new nest boxes! Chatty and Cathy both swing! And if Cathy could get Chatty and Gabby to roost she would definitely roost with the cochins!
But the Chatty n Gabby prefer the puddles!

I think minnie and daisy are still sleeping cuddled with Elsa, but im not positive.. they all rotate spots, including the nest boxes. 🙄 I'm not sure if ill leave them out or not.. ill probably be up all night worried, so maybe ill just bring them in.

Right now it’s 3° and will drop a bit overnight, plus it’s foggy. That extra humidity worries me more than the actual cold. I believe we’ve had similar temps this year all ready or close to it. The MF moved themselves into the big laying coop (uninsulated metal shed) and I put fresh shavings onto the porcelains’ favourite spot. They are in a hoop coop with an open west facing wall and I’m thinking I’ll pull the cover down a bit more tomorrow. Sometimes the cuddle puddle with a large fowl and banty friends, but I’ve also seen them up on the roost between the big guys lol

Yeah my 3 girls aren't top but they definitely are second! Even chase n peck my younger roo around!
Haha yes! Millie is such a sweet and docile and quiet bird…EXCEPT when I come out to give treats! Then she yells super loud and runs to the fence so she can try tripping me all the way to the treat can 😆 Then she’s first in the treats and will shove the other hens out of the way. I get a kick out of watching her hehe. D’Uccles may seem meek and sweet, but they have plenty of sass to keep them fed and happy! 😆❤️

Im already having nightmares of dead birds... ill bring them in for that night.. they dont cuddle much, it's like everyone takes their own nest box, they don't like their feathers touched, plus I've got sand. Ugh.
