Quote: Thank you. We've had porcelain d'uccles for a couple of years but this year we bought 6 assorted bantams to get the one d'uccle in the bin hoping for a male because we only had 4 hens (the rooster died). Wouldn't you know it, we get a self-blue female (although it doesn't have a beard so it's a booted bantam), a black cochin female, and 4 cockerels: a light brahma, a red frizzled cochin, a white silkie, and a red pyle OEGB. I also get from the person I got the eggs from, a frizzled silkie that also ended up being a rooster. I manage to sell all those boys except the light brahma and another someone gives my son some babies that I haven't figured out what they are but except for the feathered legs look similar to the light brahma (maybe sussex?)). There is a couple of frizzled chicks in there with feathered legs so I think they may have frizzled cochin in their background somewhere. And now, we have silkies (surely these won't all end up being males).
This year will be the end of having pure d'uccle. From now on, we'll have barnyard mixes. But the bantams are my 10 year old son's responsibility and all he wants is babies/ cuetness. I guess our future barnyard mixes will be cute or freaky. LOL
I wonder since she normally roosts on the roosting bar if she'll get them up or if they'll be more like other silkies, and they'll pile and snuggle together to sleep. The four in the house won't get that lesson and I think I don't want the outside chicks to learn it because the 4 in the house will be at a disadvantage already because they'll be the "new kids on the block" and if the 8 outside ones already snuggle, then maybe the other 4 can snuggle too when they get out there.
