D'uccle Thread

Hello everyone! I am just starting out with D'uccles. I have a black mottled pair, mille fleur pair, and golden neck pair. These chickens are some of my favorites and full of personality. This is my mille fleur hen striking a pose for the camera.

Very nice! Where did you get your birds?

I have a porcelain roo over mille fleur hens but no one is laying right now.

Thank you for your reply. I'm not up on the genetics...what do you get breeding MF to Porc? Do you show your birds? I am getting eggs from Nate in Fla. but may be interested in yours as well....thanks again!

i do not show my birds, just no time for it. Porcelain over MF will make chicks split to Porcelain, so if i were to breed them back to their porc dad i would get porc chicks. I'm on a wait list to get Porceain MF eggs, so whenever those come thru i should have porcelain eggs somewhere between april-june depending.

I just can't see ordering six eggs...the chances any at all would hatch is just too small.  I've been reading this thread from the beginning and am currently on page 259.  I've checked the database, I've checked with breeders who have contributed to this thread, and I have found only one current breeder.  I was really hoping to get birds from Wegotchickens (Lori in TN I believe) but no luck, haven't had a response yet but fingers crossed.  Anyone know if she is still breeding?  It seems that d'uccle breeders have short lifespans in the hobby as many I have contacted no longer breed them - I should say A LOT of breeders no longer breed them.  I realize this is a lousy time to try to get eggs but I would like to check out all options for when eggs are available come spring.  Thanks!
This makes me very sad, that there are not many more breeders of this wonderful breed. I just wanted you to know that your post chisNchickens has made me decide to try and get some d'uccles and start breeding them.

The time of season is a huge factor, but also would like to add, finding a breeder of GOOD QUALITY is harder to come by. I see adds on Craigslist for Milles and even other breeds all the time but only pet quality...

Thanks, but I have no interest in porcelain. We make time for what we enjoy, and I enjoy showing birds. It certainly doesn't take up that much time anyway! I enjoy breeding to the SOP and sharing birds with others who are like-minded.

I agree, it is disheartening. But I know there are still some out there...like Nate in Fla.

Yep its true, that is why it is important to know what you are looking for! That said, I am not looking for perfect birds as I would like to improve them over time.

Yes I did see that...I may contact him.

I got some from Nate 2 years ago and still have a veryyy nice rooster and some 2nd gen from him combined with birds I hatched from Dick this past spring which are awesome. I look forward to showing at the congress show in Springfield, MA. in a few weeks. I will be breeding many more in the Spring for both improving my flock so I can cull harder and of course to share some of my stock with others interested in breeding good quality birds.
