D'uccle Thread

Heres some current photos of my Mille hens and roos

Your birds are stunning! But I especially love this last rooster. His beard is fantastic!

Hi I have mille fleur D'uccles and I have never showed before but I am entered in the Fort Worth stock show. Could anyone give me some showing and preparing tips. Thanks

I wouldn't focus on breeding spurless birds. If anyone prefers roos without them they can be twisted off with pliers every once in awhile. They will take awhile to grow back.

I always select spurless roosters since I sell my birds mainly as pets, and they are around young children a lot, so spurless roos are a must.

I'm sorry I don't agre. I don't see the point big kids, little kids, babies, I've never had a Duccle attack anyone. If I was worried about Spurs I wouldn't own Roos. The Spurs on my D'uccles are curved with rounded tips, completely harmless. It is un-natural to breed spurless. Like de-clawing a cat or clipping their feathers, it's a natural defense.

It's not that I worry about them attacking anyone, It's when I pick them up I have gotten cut by their spurs, Which on mine are about two inches long and VERY sharp. I have had some strains that naturally are spurless (They do grow spurs eventually, but they only get about half an inch long and are blunt. I would rather have roos that are spurless, then have to cut the spurs off. (in my opinion)
