What a fat and fluffy baby...almost looks like a lil cochin kido
Thanks for posting the pics, and sorry I've been so slow at getting to PM's and list replies. Let me know when your ready for more eggs...Just PM me when you have time.
AC...how are things on your end? Would you please PM me also? Thanks
Doug, you hit the nail right on the head...it really is (seems) to be never ending, but I'm like you working on TYPE first... Colors sound wonderful. I'm excited to see what everyone ends up with by this time next year.
My current projects are:
1) Blacks (Lavender splits as well)
2) Blue
3) Lemon
4) Silver
I of course will always have my millies and some day hope to be working with more Whites. Plan is to reduce my flocks by 1/2, keeping only the best in type/form. I've decided to ONLY work on my D's and Favs, so everything else will go except my silver & lavender silkies.
Lori, you have a LOT of projects going on at once....wow! Maybe one day when I am retired I will be able to focus it all on the d's. I can't wait to meet you and your chickens one day...come to FL and show them so I can meet your birds
. I was showing my Mother your pics and she said "Sevier County we've been there!". Thought that was funny. The only project I am working on is my Milles. I am trying to get NPIP certified and was emailed today that they have me on the "list" but they are currently busy working "fairs and other projects and it may be a while before they can get to you". That stinks.
I have always had my hens hatch out the babies (with the exception of my shipped eggs) but I am now looking to get a digital incubator. The Brinsea seems like the most for my money. If anyone could tell me otherwise, please do.

It does seem like a lot when it's written out, but the projects and goals tie together nicely.
I figure I won't have competition if I don't promote the breed. And since there aren't many d'Uccles in my area....
The colors just happened.
I didn't intend to get the blacks, but if you could've seen Ronnie's birds... well, it's a wonder I didn't come home with more!
FL may be out of my range this year, especially if gas stays the way it is. But I have thought about finding a show near my sister's house (St Simon's Island area) because I could bunk with her and visit my niece at the same time. If that happens, I'll definitely give you a head's up! Although that still may be too far for you to drive and I certainly couldn't bring ALL of my showbirds.
I dearly love my Brinsea. Once you get to the temp you want, it holds it like a dream. And it gets back to temp very quickly, so opening it to pull a chick or add hot water is not a big deal. I'm now using mine as the hatcher, and setting eggs in my Brower. I thought about getting another Brinsea, too!
I don't want to use the hens to set at all this year. Broody-raised babies are more wild, and it's harder to check on type and development. So I'll be strictly bator this year. Plus, when one goes broody they ALL go broody, and no more eggs during the peak season when everyone else wants some (hint hint).
If your mom wants to visit Sevier County again (Dollywood, Gatlinburg, etcetera) please let me know. Then you can come by and meet everyone in person.
I know this is very premature, since my babies are only 2 weeks old, but can anyone tell me the progression of color for goldneck and lemon chicks? You know how hard it is to wait!

Growing like a weed here. I'll get some pics tomorrow. Little bugger HATES to have it's pic taken. Has some great foot feathering, but lacking in the beard and muffs department.
I guess the only diff in Blue and Black MF roo would be the percentage of black chicks, huh? ... Oh, and no splash.
I think I'll stick with BMF.. if I can find a nice one.
You know, if I have to replace a roo, I might as well "trade up" huh?
Let's get a nice (quality) one! lol
I think 'Chooks Chicks' from Kansas had a Mille Fleur cockerel that was a sweetie for sale a few days ago, you should give her a PM or check the 8wks and older for sale section. He was pretty.
