D'uccle Thread

All but 3 of my d'uccles are either in or on the way to their new homes. I've still got my mille fluer cock, he's now alone in the pen with a bunch of pigeons

And I've got the young pair of black mottleds out of the mottled hen and mille fluer cock.

How long did you have the birds before you set the eggs?
Could this chick be a 'leftover' from the rooster at the former home?

I got these birds in early/mid January, set the eggs Feb 7th. So yes its possible the hen was still fertilized from another Roo, but from what I understand the hen and roo they've been part of a breeding trio pen.

In my flock, I have porcelain roos over mille fleur hens, and I know I've sent some eggs to North Carolina last year......

I just haven't found the right mille fleur male yet.

I bought Nathan's last eggs and they arrived in great condition, were very clean and packed well. I'm sure they will find a great home. Someone should grab them up while you have the chance. Very nice stock

Who knows, you may end up with a mille fleur rooster in that bunch of eggs, that just gets picked on, ends up being supertame, and needs a loving home.....

I have a nice little guy coming up who may be needing a home anyway

But if this batch produces more boys than I need, I'll sure keep you in mind.

Alright, I just set 23 eggs from my d'uccles in the incubator. 23 eggs in 4 days from 14 hens. Hmmm. 3 are mille fleur, the rest porcelain. Out of porcelain d'uccle roosters. It will be interesting to see how this hatch turns out. 5 of the eggs are 'reject' eggs that I went ahead and put in anyway to monitor and see how they do (smudge or porous shell). First hatch of the year for me. I'm a bit concerned with all the wet weather we had this week, I think mine do better in drier weeks. I think about half are a smidge past pullet sized eggs. Wish me luck!

I put project eggs in the bator that were all barely past pullet starters and they all hatched. So I'll bet you do fine.

From my project eggs I have:
I have 4 millie chicks (checked my notes, and these are from the project gals in with TN)
2 black chicks with blue bellies
4 black chicks with yellow 'penguin' markings (a 5th hatched but got stuck weird in the bator and spraddled hopelessly bad)
3 yellow chicks with gray chipmunk markings
1 yellow chick that had some grayish fuzz on it's back (the first one that hatched).

So far, all the black chicks are feathering out black, no sign of mottling yet.
The millies are millies and look good. (Which makes me feel better about the 9 millie hens eating layena and not giving me anything but poo)
The yellow chicks with the stripes are feathering out suspiciously similar to silver milles, so far
The 'firstborn' is as yet an undetermined color. Not dark enough to be lavender but to silvery to be white.

I have another batch due to hatch on the 8th. I have been eating rather than setting the recent eggs because I'm waiting to hatch from Mr. Lavender Studly. I dearly love his temperment and he's taking really good care of his girls. Seeing that the Mille x project produced lovely millie babes makes me feel fairly certain that LS a project will produce some equally lovely lavender chicks.

Wow. Had planned to post a pic and realized I left the camera at home. Sorry. Will add in later....
