D'uccle Thread

Well.............unfortunately my experience has been an inability to locate SQ Pocelains. I've had a hard enough time finding SQ quality MF or GOOD quality lavenders or anything other than MF. I really had to weed through some horrible lavenders to get that guy that I've got now. The hen is pretty nice too, but that color has some serious problems with feather quality. This pair is good from what I can tell, but I won't know how they are going to reproduce until I try them. Anyway..........that's just lavender, which I think is easier to find than porcelain. I've got a pair of golden necks, which should produce blue milli fleur. These aren't TOO bad, but that's relative I guess. It depends on what your measuring them against. I would imagine using the roo with some of my best hens or vice versa. Whatever it takes to introduce the blue gene and try to maintain as much quality as possible. I wouldn't want to cross back to the original golden necks too much or I'd loose too much quality. I think I'm rambling...............
and it's getting late..........

Your young'ins are adorable! And your roo looks great, too. Very nice, crow.

It's amazing at the differences in these birds. I wish I would have taken pics of a pair of Millies at the fair this year. The roo and hen had almost identical colors. Imagine your hen having the proper comb of a male...that's what he looked like. He was a beautiful bird, but he looked nothing like he was really supposed to.

Yes, I have not seen any SQ porcelains for sale. Mine are all hatchery birds, which seems to be the only easy way to find them......the girls have normal feathers, the boys are pretty raggedy. However, they are in a rooster only pen and there is a lot of scrapping going on in there. Hoping to sell off all the extra boys from that pen this weekend.....their feathers used to be prettier (grrr).

tinychick-there's absolutely no reason for you to know this unless you ask or you happen to run across it someplace else in one of the other forums and that might be kind of hard to do unless you spend most of your life sitting in front of the computer like I do. Yes you have a lavender and a self-blue, they are one and the same. There is some very interesting information about them around tinychick, so if you have a good one you might want to do some reading about them. They are notorious for having feather problems. I can go into the whys of that (a little bit) if you want, just ask me and I'll do the best I can. There are other folks that would be much better at explaining it than me. I can tell you who they are if you want to know. I'm glad you're on here. I love having young folks on here that are interested in their animals and want to learn about them. I think that's wonderful and 4-H is fantastic, hope you do great this year.
