D'uccle Thread

i know but i liked her trhat way. I had to sell her at the auction because my larger birds wouldn't allow her to get of the roost and she was just barely getting enough food to live. I did get $15 for her but i will miss her.

Wow, I sure haven't posted in a while! Work, the stomach flu, and a garage full of chicks plus a grown flock with 5 different 'coops' to keep fed & watered have been really keeping me busy. I am happy to have all chicks out of the house and in the garage. I have one pullet that has a broken leg since week 1, where the hip basically got pulled out of its socket, and I haven't decided if I should pull her out from the other chicks or see how she fares. I had been taping her legs like Forrest Gump's splints, but it's not really helping and I'm afraid I'm making it worse by not allowing her to naturally adapt to the injury. I'm afraid to put her in with my blind pullet 'Hootie' for fear of the territorial wars and that Hootie might get her eyes pecked since they kind of bug out. Hootie was born blind, and I didn't have the heart to cull her after babying her for a few days and making sure she knew where the food and water was. Now she lays me about 3 eggs per week and is doing just fine. I think she likes the noise of the chicks in the garage with her, since the rabbit doesn't really talk.

The Missouri State Poultry Association show is on April 21st in Sedalia Missouri at the fairgrounds if anyone near Missouri wants to go or show, you can email [email protected] for an entry form. I didn't have the money to vaccinate my chicks when they hatched in January, so even though I know my flock doesn't have Marek's I'm still worried about what could happen when I show any from this bunch.

I have 3 that have almost a mille fleur mottled look to them and I think it's because they are a descendant of my rooster Sugardaddy who has a lot of lavender in his porcelain to the point of almost being mottled looking. I have one broody hen that has gotten the hang of it a bit late, as one of the 5 eggs she has looks very underdeveloped but still moving. I have a concern that my sweetest and prettiest porcelain 'Bo Diddly' might be throwing some small wattles instead of the tiny wattles that I like. I am definitely going to have to get some input this summer on what to do and who to concentrate on, as I can't just keep hanging on to my extra roosters.

Mstricer, if Mr Boots is being mean, you can give him 'the boot' :) My current mille roos that are breeding are the absolute sweetest and let me pick them up at will and pet them every day. I have another in 'protective custody' and another in 'rooster jail' as the 'protective custody' one is pretty, but got beat up by the sweetheart and doesn't have much black on his chest. My 'rooster jail' fellow has a darker color and very fine patterning (small but crisp), so even if he doesn't have the best foot feathering and personality, I plan to hatch a bunch of chicks from him this spring.

I think she's really pretty, she has such a cute little face! Looks like she got nice puffy cheeks too:)

Here is a pic of my 4 month old mille fleur d'uccle pullet, Hurley. She is on the bottom of the pecking order so she has a hard time keeping any of her pretty feathers. She is such a doll even if she isn't SQ, I will be showing her in showmanship next weekend!

Had a good time in Newnan! Did okay, considering I was up against a 2nd generation breeder of d'Uccles. Had a good time talking about colors and genetics!

Had a mille fleur pullet that took 1st in a field of 11 pullets, and Reserve of Variety in a field of 27 millies total.

My overly wild black hen took Reserve of Breed in black (7 in that category, I had 3). I wish she'd settle down but she just won't. Soooo dang pretty though I had to give it a shot. I'm glad I did!

I had the only self-blue,so they did well ;)

There were 61 d'Uccles in the show

There were a LOT of pretty birds. Including a gorgeous blue mottled that I wish I could've taken home.
There was also a splash hen that made me EXCITED because I have one just like her and wasn't sure what to call her. Ron suggested I pair her with a black roo to see if I could get a blue mottled of my own. He also showed a pair of buff columbian and a pair of silver milles. The silvers still need work, but the hen was stunning....
