D'uccle Thread

Let us know how they turn out. I haven't heard any reviews about Cackle's d'Uccles, but if they're anything like their Old English Bantams, I would expect some off types and some mortalities.

Best of success, though!

I got d'Uccles from Cackle hatchery and they turned out great! I even plan on showing some soon. The only thing that was wrong with them was that one of the roos had a crooked tail and one of the porcelain d'Uccles that I sold had a deformed toe but that was it. I also have standard sized chicks that shipped from Cackle today. Last time I ordered from them they arrived safely and I only had two die from failure to thrive. I haven't ordered from any other hatchery, just Cackle.

Haven't been on this thread for a while, my babies are really going, I currently have two groups of chicks from my Porcelain and Mille pair. The boys appear to be darker then their father, which is a bonus since Mr Boots hardly has any black, but beautiful foot feathering. I just don't know where to go from here in the breeding. I don't know if I'm going to keep Mr Boots he don't like me much and he crows way to much for my liking (like all day, in the evening, in the dark, while he is asleep, and he sounds like a dog toy that is held and let go really slowly) but any way. I want to divide into groups of Mille's and Porcelain's. I have two unrelated Mille Pullets to breed with the boy's and two unrelated Porcelain boys to breed to the girls. Can I breed the Mother with her son or not. I am a see it, then do it, so if someone could please explain it to me, then I can read it, then maybe I could get it.
Off that subject....Are all D'Uccle chicks messy, wasteful eaters, or is it just mine and I don't have it high enough?
Thanks Michele

That pullet is just a baby..her white/black mille fleur spots will come in better as she ages. I get really good foot feathering from the darker mille fleurs; better beards, muffs and form from the lighter milles

Love the gal in the second pic what did you breed to get that pattern? I have one that looks just like her only more gold lacing.

mstricer, I have found d'Uccles to be very big on 'billing out' their feed. Slinging 2 cups out to find that perfect bite of feed. I reduced waste by an amazing amout when I made the feeders out of tupperware with a moderate hole in the lid. Fill the base 1/2 full and make them stick their whole head into the feeder in order to eat. That has worked wonders! I attached a length of PVC pipe to that with an opening at the base of the pipe, which makes a gravity-fed feeder. Now they can eat for a week with little or no waste at all!

Is anyone from this thread going to Newnan GA this weekend? If so, PM me your cell phone # and I'll PM you mine. I would love to meet more d'Uccle peeps!!!

wish i could go just dont have the money nor time to make that type of a trip :( i'm trying to see if there are any shows in the louisiana area

Here is a pic of my 4 month old mille fleur d'uccle pullet, Hurley. She is on the bottom of the pecking order so she has a hard time keeping any of her pretty feathers. She is such a doll even if she isn't SQ, I will be showing her in showmanship next weekend!

That is soo funny because mine do exactly the same thing. Im gonna try to rig up something to my current store bought feeder to prevent them from wasting so much

I just took this pic and wanted to share my little cuties. Btw they are sisters and the one on the right has so much more white on her. Funny how different they came out. Unfortunately that means waiting alot longer to know your quality bracket:) But still my favorite breed

my porcelain and millie from teddi's eggs

and these 2 babies are from gypsi (the "calico" color i dont know what she calls it for sure though) i almost had 6 but with the incubator getting turned off then the kids turning the heat up to 115 i think i am very lucky to have these 2 although i wish i had helped the one that was pipped but didnt zip. the little silverish one i actually had to help and take the top part of the egg off i thought for sure it wasnt going to make it but it did (it had also broken a blood vessle when it pipped internally thought it was surlly going to bleed to death with how much blood was all around). it just so happens to actually be the strongest. the one that pipped and didnt zip looked completly ok but was way bigger than these 2 and the others that didnt pip at all were deformed in that their insides were outside their body and thats probly due to the miss haps during incubation. anyways heres the 2 little ones i did get :) what color do you think they will be? ( i will take these 2 to the fair this year to show them off lol)
