D'uccle Thread

Treehouse, where did you get your chicks from? They look like d'Uccles, so far. I don't raise mottled, but your penguin chick has much more white that any chick I've ever hatched that was 'mottled-ish', so I'd say there's a good change they're mottled.

And in one pic it looked almost like a blue mottled chick.... But I don't know about the backgound birds. Black mottled?

The golden chicks could be gold necks, but you'll just have to be patient with them and wait and see. Chicks go through a lot of stages before they come anywhere close to their mature plumage.

So very excited :)
I was so very surprised to see D'uccle at the feed store, snatched them all up , was looking for the puffy checks, could that be a good sign? Not to mention the feathered feet and other subtiltys?

Never can tell with hatchery stock. I've actually shown against some nice birds that I was told came from a hatchery. Several friends have pulled d'Uccles from the bantam tubs at the feed store, and I've seen them there myself.
Puffy cheeks are good, but no guarantee. Some of my chicks with no puff as babies have grown up to have very nice beards. That's another part of the 'being patient' thing, because you just never know.....

I sold a self-blue cockeral last year for having a naked middle toe. But it turned out he was just a late bloomer, and has lovely toes now!

We are in central OK but I only have the one rooster and my son is attached to him. Right now he is with my full size orphingtons and australorps. I think they secretly laught at his breeding antics, lol. The other day I went in to feed and he tried to flog me, I had to look down to see what I scratched my leg on, lol. He is the character of that coop. I need to find him some girls.

Awww... too bad, I have been looking for a Roo for months now. Anyone have one on my route between Kentucky and California? Will be going thru SW/Central KY, Nashville to Memphins, bit of Arkansas/Oklahoma, texas to Round Rock/Austin, to New Mexico, and AZ along the boarder and then California.
