D'uccle Thread

these are my chicks, at 4 weeks, minus the one who i didn't get a pic of cause my camera died....
The definite roo:

The other possible roo, whose beak is trying to cross. I've been keeping it trimmed down in an effort to stop it:

My porcelain, who is at 3 weeks, with no comb development so far... (This one hasn't gained as much size as the buff ones did at this age, this is the one i had to nurse as a chick with the sugar water and mash)

I am so upset, I went out to feed this morning to find both of my bigger Beautiful more speckled Mille Fluer D'Uccle Cockerels both 8 wks old dead. Looks like they got in a fight early this morning and did each other in, feathers this way and that blood on both of them and rigger had barley set in, they were both still warm too. there was no way for any predators in because they hadn't moved to their outdoor enclosure yet, that was going to be today. qwrnheswwzx szzaqaqw2azz6ttaaa23w3 I was hoping they just knocked each other silly but it was not the case. I do not understand what happened they had plenty of space, food and water. They were also in a bachelor pan because one of them was going to go to a friend and I couldn't decide which one. not to mention I had way to many boys to girls at one point and these two were my last two Mille Fluer.

This thread has made me seriously think about seeking out a hen or two of this breed. They sound like really sweet natured birds!
You will need more than one or two, trust me!
I loved them first because of their beautiful coloring (Mille Fleur) but they are the sweetest, friendliest birds I have ever seen!

ok, so I was so excited to get my little d'uccle. After I researched and now can actually say the name correctly. Anyways, we are new to chickens and have a few different types of chicks, which we are having a blast with. I started searching in here yesterday, and I think my pretty little d'uccle is a boy/roo :( Which I am disappointed about because a few others I picked are also turning to pretty roos! And we can't have all these boys. Anyways, this is our little d'uccle. He is a very nervous little guy and doesn't like to be held much. He is very squirmy and difficult to catch, but I think he's very pretty. I thought he might be a boy since he already has a comb. Any opinions on him, thank you. He is 2 weeks old here.

Are they kinda nervous as chicks? Or is this bird specific, not breed specific? We have them in the living room, they are handled each day and fed treats by hand. Which he takes quite well! In comparison, they little polish, serama and silkie I have are quite docile when picked up and may scurry around the cage, but this guy is kinda wild! It was fun trying to get a photo of him!

He was very frustrated to be out of the crate away from his friends.

Porcelain chicks are not as hardy as Mille Fleur.... at least mine haven't been. Cute chicks.

I don't think my coop will support more than three birds, its on the smaller side. I have one right now that I want to get a friend, so I am trying to do a lot of research to find something that I am going to really like. Right now I am torn between two D'uccle posted on craigslist, and two cochins also posted on craigslist.
