D'uccle Thread

I have 5 grown hens now (cochin bantam, silkiemix and polish) only 1 of them is laying because three is either brooding or with chickens or believe she is with chickens  and I have 4 incubators :bag:

I had one of these many years ago amd she was brooding also :)

Livi, off the subject a tad, but does your cochin allow you to reach in her box when brooding, or is she a mean broody?

Also, everyone, are the du'ccle's nice mommas too?

I have had a gentle broody and a horrible mean one, i prefer the former!

My pure bred cochin was a very nice brooder, my (or my 3 year old daughers really) mix of bantam cochin and bantam silkie is a monster. She bites and she screams, awful sound. She is very mean to the other chickens to, fiercly protecting her nestbox and an unecessary big area around it ;) And she was hatched in end of january, had just been laying a few weeks before she felt the urge. I reckoned it was no need to try and dissuade her of the notion so I gave her a few eggs to be hatched in 14 days.
