D'uccle Thread

My question kinda got burried. I'll reask it and see if anyone has any ideas? I bought that mille fleur breeding pr on the 24th, they were free ranging with brahmas and "generic" red chickens about the size of RIR's. She said they pretty much stuck together all the time and says that the eggs will most likely be purebred, but I just don't feel comfortable selling the eggs to people and then they end up getting mixed breeds. Know what I mean? How long do I need to wait to be sure they're purebred? For example, human sperm can live for 4-5 days, is it the same for chickens? In the future, if I were to breed 2 chickens 1 time and I were to separate them, how long would I get fertile eggs for?

3 to 4 weeks, same amount of time. Hope that helps

3-4 weeks and you really have to separate them - even subordinate roos that you think NEVER come near a hen will do a sneak mating when the head roo is busy elsewhere ....

and it is poor of anyone who wants to sell eggs of any particular type to not ensure the parentage. Otherwise they should just call it a barnyard mix - and there is nothing wrong with that - barnyard mixes are usually healthy birds. But otherwise I would call it fraud and robbery !!! harsh ? maybe - but there you go. :)

Glad you asked, because it seems you were given some poor information. I always set my parent pairs off in a little bitty run for that time - but you can also just separate your hens for a while and then put the roo in - depending on how they all get along. Good luck.

When I separate my breeding pairs I wait 2 weeks before I start saving the eggs for incubation. I think I heard somewhere you are safe after 12 days, but I go 2 weeks just to be sure and haven't had any "surprises".

My comment was aimed at the "get rid of the white" comment, not at your birds, which look quite young. Mottling shows more and more white as the bird ages, so by the time they have adult plumage, they should be okay. I can't speak to their quality as I am not a d'uccle breeder. I didn't see anything that would make them not d'uccles. though.

I am bringing her to show regardless, she will be my fit and show girl. She is much better behaved then my shy-sweet sebright. <3
Another question, so porcelain is mille fluer crossed with a lavender D'uccle?
No. it is mille fleur with two copies of lav. A first generation cross will not get you porcelains, and would lose the mille fleur patterning. You would have to cross them for more generations as you are dealing with two separate recessive genes (lav and mo).

So LavXMillie hen crossed with a LavxMillie roo will produce some porcelain offspring?
