D'uccle Thread

Hm. I will have to look into it. Not that any of it matters a booted bantam took Overall Champ. last year. I was kind of upset. It was entered as a D'uccle.

Was this in 4-H or an open show? They let a lot of stuff slide. I will walk around loooking at birds at the local fair and seek easter eggers entered as araucanas and ameraucanas and production reds as rhode island reds and all other sorts of stuff. I know some kids dont knoow what they jave but a majority if this was leaders telling them to enter them as this and that. The also let color projects win champion. I saw a kid win champion with an easter egger labled as an araucana. Also dint DQ for anything. Which doesnt bother me like the misplaced birds do.

I was looking for some duccle breeders when i seen this and i entered a pair of blue ameraucana, and they were in good condition and some entered easter eggers That they got at tractor supply and i told them they were not ameraucana he said he didnt care what they were, and later that week when they judge poultry he ended up winning gran champion,

I understand the whole part of 4-H is to learn, but it would help to teach the right stuff (i hope you get what I am trying to say there, by no means trying to be disrespectful). I have listened to some of the judges comments on birds and when you get down to it, all they seem to focus on it their feather quality in 4-H. I have only seen a jugde call out a kind once. they had an easter egger entered as an araucana, they told them that araucanas were rumpless and so on. Then proceeded to tell they had an ameraucana. Corrected one mistake, created another. Some people (whether is be adults or kids) just don't want to hear it. Many kids seem to think they know everything and many adults are "set in their ways". When i run into people that don't want to face the facts, i just try to keep my cool and move on. But when they get crappy about it is really hard to look the other way. I have ran into the whole EE vs AM thing is farm stores many of times. I try and teach them, some don't care and are very rude, some will actually listen. Some would say "schooled", i prefer the term "bestowed knowledge upon". Here is how I few how the whole wrong entry thing should go in 4-h- I think it should be DQed. Some may view as harsh since they are kids, but you have got to look at from another perspective. There are the few kids out there that took the time to learn about these chickens and actually worked hard to get good quality chickens. And actually enter them right. How do people thinks it makes them feel to be beat by a bird that isn't even what it was protrayed to be? IMO its not right. While the DQed kid would most likley be upset (which I understand), most kids show more than 1 bird. So if all they care about is winning they will have more chances to win (shouldn't be what it is about though). And they hopefully would learn alot. Which is what 4-H is suppose to be all about. The EE vs AM confusion is one of my biggest pet peeves. It only bothers me when someone won't see they are wrong. And I will admit years ago I was in the wrong. i was calling my EEs, AMs. i didn't know any better. But I learned and changed, which others are completley capable of doing. Well I better stop here before I rant on for 2 pages. Sorry about your whole situation, I can relate.

I also think they should be disqualified - it is part of life - and a way to teach how to learn and READ standards and rules and come back stronger next time.

And once they put the research in - they will be even prouder of any achievement.

Right now, I really hate 90% of the kids today -and I am NOT anti-kid ! They never figure things out - they just ask and rush on and never even learn from the answer given because they don't know how to figure ..... and then their manners ! argh.

I am having a really difficult time deciding who to leave my farm to in my will .... who will know how to steward the land ??? They must learn from people with knowledge - part of it is the breeding and raising of poultry :)

Do you think this is a late blooming too? 9 months old
