D'uccle Thread

I'm crying. The 2/24 d'uccle chicks that hatched from Ron Tallent died. They were almost two weeks old in with one week old Ameraucana chicks. Why would they die?

Oh my, so sorry for your loss. I really don't think the size difference would f had anything to do with it unless they got really cold am trampled them, but the weather has been better at least here anyways. Have you seen any bloody stool? Sometimes things just happen and there isn't always a clear explanation.

I got nothing either. No symptoms at all??? How long together??? 2 or 24? (Post had 2/24)

I am truly sorry. Hurts to lose them; i have mingled with size difference and all was well so unless there was obvious fighting i'd have done the same. No idea what could have done that! ((((Hugs)))))

With Mareks you would think there would of at least been one symptom. I don't think chickens usually just drop dead from Mareks without any signs
I don't think that they always show symptoms. I think Mareks is actually the most likely culprit as it is common in young chicks and doesn't always show symptoms. Were the chicks hatchery or breeder? If they were hatchery then they were probably vaccinated but if they were breeder they probably not.

On the Mareks FAQ article on here they mention it doesn't always show symptoms.

There symptomatic and asymptomatic. Asymptomatic, not showing symptoms. I just find it odd that all the d'uccle would be affected and none of the ameraucanas and not a symptom.

I have to say, that having done a ton of research. It is EXTREMELY rare for mareks not to show symptoms. At the very least, the chick should have shown dilated pupils, ruffled feathers, or lack of control before it died. Also, the poop most likely would have been runny and green to show what the disease had been doing on the outside. But, of course, there is the very rare time when the birds do just fall over and die from it, but I don't think that this is what alibra is dealing with.

I'm really sorry for your loss
