D'uccle Thread

I really do like the white/black one. That will defintiely be very unique when it matures:) Keep us updated with that little one! The black one didnt have too many feathers on its feet but more may come as it ages...
Yeah the black one doesnt have a whole lot of feathers on its feet. The white one is fantastic! It has all kinds of color on it now. I will post pictures soon, I have been really busy with work, kids and the garden.

I just got my MFD last week and notice that one chick is quite light, one chick is medium and one chick is fairly dark. They are all MFD, compared to those online, but I saw that they seem to hatch in a range of values. Is there any correlation with adult plumage? I just wonder if one will be more or less spotted or have a darker base color than the other, that kind of thing. I know it doesn't mean anything else (gender, etc.). Just curious. They're very cute and quite boisterous- they have no qualms about pushing around the slightly older and much larger Araucana chicks I also got if they want something and the Araucanas are in the way. Lot of personality, I think I'm really going to enjoy this breed a lot.

THAT is too much unfortunately. Try and find a hen thats doesnt have enough white like a buff and maybe youll get some nice gold necks...He is very nic elooking though, good and full body and some nice foot feathering:)

Thank you, these are my first D'Uccles and that was my inkling...but I thought he sort of had good type otherwise. Just trying to get an idea if it's even worth working with. I do have another young GN cockerel who is much darker, hopefully he will turn out ok. I appreciate the input!

I've found in MF that chick down has absolutely no correlation to adult plummage. Believe me, I wanted to believe it would be easy to cull lesser quality birds at a young age, but with d'uccles, all you can do is wait until they are at least six months old.
Anyone else care to comment on this one? If there's a system, I would love to know it!

This is my Millie, Baby. I lover her sooo much! She has done well in show and is the sweetest thing ever. I am hoping to hatch some porcelains, I have 14 in the incubator right now.

I got my very first ever Belgium D 'uccle yesterday- what a gorgeous little hen!!! She is a bit flighty ATM ( 6months old) so I'm hoping she settles... I've named her " sweet pea" and she is a beautiful caramel colour. I'm pretty sure she isn't a show able colour but wow, she is sooooooo pretty

I'm so sorry, I have know idea how you tell if its a pea comb or a straight comb. These are our very first chicks, or I should say Chickens. Never thought we would have chickens until I rescued the first set last week. Here are better pictures I hope. She/He didn't want their photo taken. I know someone said that one of the others looks like a Light Brahma, but it has no where as near as many feathers on its legs. This one has tons of feathers on the legs.
