D'uccle Thread

Can you intermix White, Mille, and golden neck?
I intermixed a gold neck rooster with a pen of porcelain & mille hens - mostly because I had a space issue this winter

I got these.....

Mille Fleur D'Uccle (pronounced "dew-clay"... My favorite bantam!

Being an APA Judge & having shown poultry for over 50 years is several states I have never heard anyone pronounce d'Uccle [the proper spelling] "dew-clay".
However, here on BYC where thr real poultry experts dwell, someone ocassionally says it's pronounced this way.

Personally, I like the pronunciation: 'dew-clay' better than 'de-uckle'. The first sounds more elegant, and matches the birds elegant disposition.

That's just me.

I would like to hear how others pronounce it!

Actually, since the d is a contraction, it would not be prounounced as part of the main word. Uccle is the main word so it would get pronounced in full. You-kle sound. O'Toole isn't pronounced like Otto-ley/lee. O'Keefe isn't Okey- in the beginning. McDonald's, McIntire, O'Henry, whatever else you can think of. It's pronounced seperately is all I'm trying to say.

No different than people pronouncing the rabbit breed Dwarf Hotot wrong. People look at it and say it one way or another and they just keep on saying it THEIR way because that's what they like better. then they try to use it often and everywhere and try to get people to switch to their way of thinking. It isn't pronounced Hoe-tot or hot-tot. It's pronounced oh-toe. The H and last T are silent. Same with my name, for example. It's Tania. No one says it right unless they know me and know how it's supposed to be pronounced. I get Tan-ya (rhymes with fan) Ta-nee-ah, Ta-nye-ah, Tay-na, Tay-nee-ah. It's none of the above. It's Tan-ya (rhymes with on like off & on)

Giovanni, my first d'uccle. He was a sweetie until one day he flipped and got really mean and unfortunately we had to rehome him. He was definitely the prettiest rooster I have ever had.
