They were hatched and temporarily brooded in a big cabinet incubator for their first few days of life... Could they have picked it up there you think?

Aspirgilis gives diarrhea i thought? The birds i suspected had green diarrhea with undigested food (phone isn't good enough to open links)

Hatcheries have several vaccines besides the turkey strain of the mericks. I'd call to see what one they used. Mostly the turkey one is the one available to backyard farmers. Still- rapid onset? Poops normal?

You are sure there was no fighting? Head trauma will do as you described.

I had a 3-4 week old chick that I found dead when cleaning out my grow out brooder. I'm not sure if it was smushed (it was next to spot I've noticed they pile in to sleep-wire window to adult coop so I thought they are safe from suffocating) or if wet litter/food/etc could have caused aspergillis grew, it breathed in spores, and was killed by it. Hopefully, I won't find more like that. I had cleaned out most of the shavings but didn't bleach the wooden floors and walls so if it was aspergillis, it's still there.

I was just wondering, if I cross breed my two Bearded D'Uccle hens with another type of bantam rooster...will the off spring have any sort of spot pattern or distinct coloring? I'm very curious, and I've never had this type of chicken before!

It depends on the color and type of rooster you breed them to. I wouldn't even ask for predictions because your breeding mutts and you really never know what genetics will be dominant and passed down to the offspring. Mutts aren't bad for a back yard flock but is keep it more of a surprise myself. Just my opinion. Have fun with it

I am in the middle of a stressful hatch It's day 22 and only 6 of the 17 fertile eggs have hatched. A 7th chick pipped and zipped but didn't make it out. I feel so bad, everything seemed fine on day 18, but now it seems like something is wrong. My humidity has been at 65 - 70% since day 18, it was in the 40's before that. temp has been 99 all along. It just sucks to feel so helpless! To top it all off, one of the 6 I have, has a bad leg. most likely a slipped tendon. I splinted it but I don't know if it will work. On a happy note, here are some pics of the 2 d'uccles I have so far.

So cute! How wet were the chicks that hatched when they came out? I usually don't keep humidity that high but some folks do. I usually go for dry hatching until day 18, then keep it around 60%. A hatchery manual I read had 55-65% for hatching but eh, close enough if it works! Lol. Bantam eggs have come out earlier than day 21 or at least before the LF chicks so far for me. Humidity can affect a hatch greatly just the same as temp according to the hatchery manual. I have fingers crossed for more chicks for you!

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I posted. Yesterday my broody's eggs hatched; ten of twelve eggs. Yeah!!! They are millies, at least for ten generations on the hen's side, and some of the chicks have an outside cross grandsire, also a millie, but not sure of all his ancestors. Nine of the chicks have normal millie coloring, but one is very different. It has the muffs and feathered feet, as predicted, BUT is creamy yellow with some chipmunk markings. ???? Cute, but a big surprise. Not porcelain. I'll try for pictures tomorrow. I do have a very large Ameracauna black rooster, but they aren't very likely to breed; different social groups, and huge size difference. Ideas? Mary

Here is a video of my two brats dewberry picking, they are brother and sister and both are pet quality only- I never let them with my breeders. They crapped out on me early, gave up and went to their kennel to go lay down while I picked berries for hours.
