D'uccle Thread

Spangled Shamos, they are from very good lines. I forgot the name of the breeder so I'll have to do some searching...

They certainly exotic looking, I have good things about those and know they are hard to find....in Oklahoma anyhow.
I love your avatar BTW. Can you help me with the colors on my chicks and pullets? A few messages earlier.
I'd sure appreciate your expertise.

I'm not sure there's a name for those colors. Of anything they're not show colors. They're amazingly beautiful for pets though. I had one that looked the right one in your pic of the 2 pullets. I regretted selling her but I couldn't keep her mixed with my purebred SQ milles. If you want to show I would start with completely new lines. If not, you'd get some really pretty colors from them. I can't indentify the chicks either:(

Well, I have no intention of showing, and I love these 2 pullets/hens. I also have an amazing little roo that I sure do like a lot.
Pets are fine with me. Though I have to say that I really wanted to stay with standard and recognized colors. I don't like "experiments" because then they sometimes get passed off to people who are disappointed.
I just raise a handful, no more than 10 a yr, so doubt I'll flood the market with undesirable colors.
Thanks for the info I appreciate it. They have a special home just built for them so that I can enjoy them to the fullest, they talk all the time and are a real joy to me.
Everyone who sees them thinks they are gorgeous.

My two girls are growing up. They're getting their first mille fleur feathers but still not feather hocks... Anyone know what age those usually come in?

I can't tell you the exact age for the vulture hocks but mine are there from the beginning nearly.
REALLY youngster show this trait. Same with muffs on face. They hatch with them.

Mine, too, were there very early. I haven't seen anything specific at hatch, but I just looked at my young chicks to give you an exact idea. (These birds come from a single line though, and they have HUGE vulture hocks as adults. They touch the ground.) My 5 day old chick definitely has some excess fuzz on it's hocks, and the week and a half old chicks have feathers about 1/2 - 3/4 inch long on their hocks. So in this line anyway, it shows up very early.

Thanks. These two were hatched from hatchery parents so I'm not surprised that they aren't up to sop. They're still the sweetest birds I have and they love to sit on my shoulder and ride around while I do yard work or clean the coop so I regret nothing! XD

They should most definitely be growing in by now. That's unfortunate they don't have them. The one with no beard is definitely pet quality. The other has decent beard but can't see the rest of the birds from the pics

Well speaking of pets! I don't know what to make of this guy.

He was in a hatch of pure bred Calico Bantam Cochins.
Lot of them are this exact color but this one sure looks D'Uccle to me.
Did the Calico Cochins come some where down the line from D'Uccles???
Is he throwback?

He is less than 4 months old. He thinks he is a rooster all right!!!
