Who here shows their d'uccles? If you do, can you post photos of your SQ birds??
I have some hatching over the next few days...lavender, black mottled, porcelain and mille, and I am so excited! One porcelain already hatched, but is drying still...another is pipped and hopefully more to follow!
I have heard only great things about these little birds...I am going to hopefully choose some to keep for my children to show in 4H.
I have shown all the adult birds on post 145. They all won, but my Mille Fleur are MUCH better quality than the lavenders. That's something I'm working on improving. Even though the lavenders did well at show I want them to be PERFECT.
Henry, I have one butterscotch that looks like yours. Don't know what's going on there. All other babes have been yellow. Interesting...
I've got a hen that went BB at the Marietta, OH show a couple of week ends ago, but I don't have a picture of her. I'll try to get some of her soon, but I'm in the middle of a move and I'm swamped. I've been meaning to do it for awhile now. I took my cockerel and he took 1st in his class, but he had no competition. He is actually to light in the beard and muff area and I'm not real crazy about his role as a roo. He could be a better man. This is Eric my roo.
He will turn 1 yr in June. I got him from Jamie Matts in New York. He's an APA judge and breeds mostly Cochins. I think his wife is the d'Uccle breeder. I've got some of Lynne Van Dyke-Grammer's eggs in the incubator right now, since they're shipped eggs from California to Ohio I'll be glad if I get a trio from 25 eggs. I guess Lynne doesn't show, but she sure has gorgeous birds. I can't wait to add them to the program.
No, I don't show....Two reasons. One, I don't have the time & two, I live is Southern Cal where there are "no" shows. Between the fact that we grow exclusively for a restaurant in San Diego, we have over 500 chickens & we milk goats daily, there isn't much time left when there are just "two old geezers" running the show. I will leave all the glory of showing to those who have the opportunity. I'm just thrilled to hear when one of my children wins. Keep up the good work~!
