They are getting that nice V topline, and their foot feathers are just lovely at 11 weeks or so. They are also starting to round out with that nice Baroque curviness that I just love in this breed.

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting here on the D'uccle thread, and I'll let you know I've never owned D'uccle but they are absolutely gorgeous birds...

Okay so the reason I'm posting - I am looking to help my good friend find a breeder or any D'uccles preferably chicks or teenagers in the central NC area or lower VA area. She lost her two mille fleur d'uccle babies and five of six silkies the other morning to a large black snake. My friend has been going through an exceptionally rough time in her life - and the pet chickens I had gotten her into (silkies to start off with) have been one bright spot in her life along with her other animals. This has severely devestated her that she thinks she hasn't done enough to protect her babies...They were in a rabbit hutch that was all wood and 1/2" hardware cloth, very secure or so we thought. It was in her garage beside her Rottie's kennel and we never thought about snakes - even me who is a snake enthusiast didn't think about it but for a second and dismissed one coming in where the dogs were and nothing big enough to eat chicks getting into the cage...We were wrong - obviously. This snake was 5+ feet long and ate 6 chicks in probably a 2 hour span.

My friend has been caring for her elderly mother who has been having a rough time, my friend has been battling her own health issues lately, is facing having to put one of her dogs down soon and then this happens...She still has her other chickens but some she's always had as layers and she has two silkies with 2 babies they hatched...She was excited upon getting the 2 mille fleurs in her batch of chicks from MyPetChicken and they were the friendliest chicks - and she was looking forward to seeing them grow and color out. She now feels like she doesn't deserve chickens as she's been having such bad luck with them, and while she understands its nature - she is just a very tender hearted person and I think the best thing for her is to get her some new chicks to help her prove to herself it isnt her fault and she does deserve to have her new babies. She has 1 chick left that essentially with what she's paid for ordering them and the eggs she'd ordered before those - and all the shipping from chicks and eggs she has 3 chicks that she invested 100$ into.

So if any of you guys are in NC and have a few chicks or teenagers for sale - please let me know, I would greatly appreciate it. I am going to buy her a few and surprise her - though she knows I'm planning to get some more she's thinking I'm only going to get her a couple silkies - but I know she wants her D'uccles after listening to her call and talk about them every few days for the 2.5 weeks she had them.

If you happen in this area or get really desperate, I have porcelain d'uccles for sale. They are like lavender mille fleurs.....very pretty.

Nella - yeah I have seen porcelian and mille's before A friend of mine breeds both - thats where I've always seen the breed before she had nice looking birds. She however moved out of state a few months ago, to The other end of Kentucky!!! And I know she isn't incubating this season because of the move and getting settled.

They are friendly. My daughter has the older birds trained that when she raises her arm and tapps it they will fly up to it and sit on her arm.
She is still working on the young ones from this year.
We have lots of babies Blue Mille and Mille split for Blue. we hav not bred the lavendar yet.
Must build more coops.

At what age do the D'uccles get the white tips on their tails?

Ummmm............that varies........some get their tips VERY young, some are much older, and some NEVER get them at all. It depends on the line.
