D'uccle Thread

Doug, you are a kinder more patient sould that me. I'd've have culled her, out of concern that it was genetic. Like the crummy shoulder feathering on some porcelains & self-blues.

Turont turont (imagine bugles blowing)

I cheated and candled. Veeeeery carefully.

1 clear
2 quite small, probably going to quit, or at least be late
9 doing well so far

All 4 of the remaining white x self blue eggs are due any day now. Due to the broody factor there is no certain delivery date. one will hatch pretty early compared to the other 3.
And I added a new egg from the same pen 2 days ago and added another today. I'm going to check and see if she laid me another one in the garage last night (but I doubt it).

I don't like to even purchase those Del conf things. They only confirm that the package was mailed. And even if the employees along the way do their jobs and scan them, they only tell you where the package was, not where it is. So, they really have limited value, IMO. They may not even scan them upon delivery as I found out a couple years ago. I think the P.O. is guilty of fraud, really, in taking money for a service they really don't intend to provide.

My half d'Uccle hen had a spot on the underside of her foot that I was worried could be the start of a bumblefoot infection, so I took her to the vet last week. At the same time, I asked our vet about the raised scales on her legs. He said it was not scaly leg mites, but just something normal to her as a feather footed breed.

That's what I was told too, though if you print the scan form when you purchase the label through the USPS site, they do scan it when they pick it up. At least then it has some sort of record of actually being IN the system. I think the P.O. in my area is just lazy, cause I've had several shipments come to me that were scanned 4 or more times during their journey.
