Yup. Looks like a lavender to me!

I have 6 new lavender babies!!
Makes me soooo happy to see fuzzy feet on them. Some are better than others, but all of them are an improvment over the original lavender parents.

Nate, these are the TX milles that lived in a heated barn before they moved to TN. So yeah, I do think it's the weather. My TN miles are much less spoiled and giving me a few eggs every day now. It is helping me to be a little more patient

A very little more patient.
Like, not really very patient at ALL <sigh>

Especially since we have frost warnings for tonight

Lori!!!! Hatched out two more GN and a MF baby yesterday! OMG, they are adorable! Such fluffy cheekies and good middle toe feathering. Midas has greatly improved that, since the girls isn't very good. I am hoping the butterscotch (named Girlie) starts laying soon. She is in the pen with Midas and is really red in the face. She looks gorgeous out in the sun. I'll have to get some new pics for you.

Has anyone here done line-breeding consistently? I have been doing research and from what I read it is the best way to improve quality. I'm starting to keep track of who breeds with who and what pen I get the eggs from and try it out for a few generations. Would be my best rooster to his best daughter. Then that daughter to him, then again, and again. Then cross over with an unrelated and start again. Hopefully I'm making the right move!

I've read about line-breeding and spiral breeding. I like the idea of spiral breeding better, but line breeding can be done in combination with spiral breeding. I just don't think line-breeding is a long-term winning scenario.

No matter what you do, make good records and tag the birds. Now that I'm breaking out into so many colors, I'm using the NPIP tags to identify the birds and will use those numbers to track combos and lineage.

Thanks

I have 6 lavender chicks now, and one that is lavender with yellow wings. Weird. Don't know what she'll look like

Can't wait to see how they feather out, but their feet are nicely fuzzy and they have cute cheeks. Just have to wait and see if the lavender gene messes up the shoulders. Breeding projects take time, and patience is not one of my strongest capabilities.
