D'uccle Thread

Oh, for pete's sake! How cute must 100 of these sweeties be??? These are enough to make you swoon.

Glad you showed us the "worthy" ones!

I am ready for some steady weather. Was 82 here yesterday but today the wind is blowing hard and it doesn't feel the warm temp of 70. I will get wind burn instead of sun burn! Somehow that doesn't make me as attractive.

Not all the 100 are d'Uccles. I have 5 showgirls and about 12+/- silkies.
Most of the rest of the chicks are black, black mottled, or weird little science projects from the lavender project pen. I'll keep some of the back chicks, and most of the science projects.

We caught your wind

Last night was horribly gusty with a lot of rain. We still have winds steady aat 20mph with higher gusts, and I doubt the temp is much above 60 today. I am praying it blows through to kore sunshine by the weekend!!

Yes I did and posted back!!

She's very pretty and I love the spangling and foot feathers!!

Thanks! Apparently my phone doesn't want to give me my FB notifications today, so I will have to check them when I get home.

She is a doll. Wasn't thrilled with getting her pictures taken, but so docile and cute.

NONE of them like having their pictures taken LOL. It's the only time GC's boys aren't all over me to see what's up....

Glad Midas is doing so well for you!!

He is doing AWESOME for us!!! I am so grateful that you sold him to me. He loves his girls and makes gorgeous babies. I have 2 3 week old GN's, 3 1 week old GN's, and 2 that just hatched this morning. All of them are so cute and have great feathering. I'm happy we are finally getting more GN's than MF. I like them so much better. I can't wait to see how the 3 month old changes as she gets older. I'm a little sad though, Midas is molting and has lost his gorgeous sickle feathers. I hope they grow back soon. Makes him look so much more regal.

i have 3 mille fleur d'uccles and im wanting to get a trio of porcelain and self blue hopefully they will have some at the show in troy in a couple weeks since lucasville didnt have any

I have a question about d'Uccle combs. We have two d'Uccles, three mixed breed part d'Uccles and the rest of the flock are Serama/Old English Game Bantam. I've noticed that the combs of our d'Uccle and part d'Uccle hens are not as large or as bright red as the combs of the other birds, but now I'm a little worried about Scooter, one of the d'Uccles. Her comb is noticeably paler than her d'Uccle sisters, sort of papery and whitish in areas on the outside of the comb.

She is still laying, however. Otherwise she seems fine, eating, drinking, pooping and acting normally. She has lost a little weight over the winter, around 40 grams, and she's been engaged in a vendetta against another hen, repeatedly chasing and bullying her for several months now.

We just had a fecal check on the flock a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't use Scooter's poop specifically. No sign of mites, and I was also thinking it would be odd to have only one bird affected if there were mites.

What do you d'Uccle experts think? Could this just be a normal variation (I notice that the scales on d"Uccle legs are certainly rougher normally than the scales on the legs of our nonfeathered foot breeds)? Stress from the pecking order conflict? Something else?

elmo, I've been told by a couple of breeders that it's not unusual to have a single bird in the flock with mites. It's like when skeeters target certain members of the family because they're tastier or something. Check around her vent area and under her wings. If there's dirt around her vent, lightly brush it and see if any of the dirt moves.

Do you know if this hen is older than the others? Combs can fade a little with age, too. d'Uccle combs are meant to be smaller than other breeds. To me they are just as red, though. I have some older birds that have paler combs, though.

I've seena lot of variation in leg scales even among d'Uccles. But as a general rule they are much rougher for sure!

Thanks, I'll give her another going over and look specifically at those areas you mention. No, she's not older than our other d'Uccle, she was hatched out in the same clutch only last spring.

Poor little girl. Sounds like she's going to need to take a trip down the road to see the chicken vet.
