D'uccle Thread

Hello D'uccle people! I have 7 Millie Fleur D'uccle eggs in my incubator right now due to hatch on the 23. My kids are getting into showing chickens at the county fair and my Humongo Orpingtons are just waaaaay to big for them to carry! I grabbed these D'uccles in the crazy egg train thread here on BYC.
Just looking at what you all got going on in these pics on this thread here, I think I'll be getting into the D'uccles myself too...not just for the kids as my Dh thinks?

Shhh don't tell him, he thought it was crazy when I needed a second coop for the orps, and he thought Id really lost when I wanted a small coop for color projects.... But I think the D'uccles may be a must have hahahaha they are awfully cute

Welcome!
d'Uccles are the perfect kid's bird. Friendly, small and quite smart. You and the kids will all love them. Even your DH wil fall under their spell!! If you don't have a good hatch, try to go to a poultry show and find some started birds!

I feel your pain on the 75% thing. I have better luck picking them out of the straight run bin at the feed store! And I would also like to see some Gray d'uccle pics! My husband gets so aggravated because when I go out to do the 'chicken chores' I lose track of time while petting the chickens. Meanwhile he's inside minding our 2 kids.

I'm taking 4 of my d'uccle's to the show this weekend. Do you think the judge will notice the faint green barn paint that is still on one of my roosters?

I get this ALL THE TIME and don't even have small children!!! I come back in and he tells me I've been gone for hours.
Poor pitiful man....

Don't know what to tell you about the barn paint....
Do you have any VetRx? Maybe the oils in it will help remove the paint? I know the VetRx doesn't discolor the feathers, so it won't hurt to try.

OK. I think it's time for me to join this thread.

I have been a troll on it, for some time now...reading all I can, while waiting to get my own D'uccles. I'm now Chicken Mom, to 12 Mottled D'uccle chicks, and 1 Porcelain chick.
They are 2 weeks old, today!!

I already had a 6month old, Mottled hen... 1 Mille Hen, same age...and a 1 y/o booted bantam, Mille roo. It's these 3, that sold me on the idea, of getting more of these beautiful little bantams. My booted roo, can be a handful at times...but in a funny "little man syndrome" way.

I also JUST received an order of 18 eggs, from Teddi, today!!!
All made it here, in perfect condition, thanks to Teddi's great packing!!

Here are a few pics, of my current D'uccles. I'm open to ANY feedback, good or bad.

I'm looking forward to leaning as much as I can, from this thread.
I love the way, everyone in this thread, are supportive of each other.

Wow, I can't give you any feedback other than, "I WANT, I WANT!"

You have beautiful chicks. I didn't know what mottled chicks looked like. Thanks for sharing.

I have a few Porcelains hatching out now! From Teddi! They are adorable! I have 4 left to hatch out of the 12 she sent me!

I have more due to hatch this weekend and more still to hatch in another week or so and some due to hatch in less than 3 weeks. I was so afraid I could not get any of these little beauties, though a friend that lives close has some. I am one of those bad people that when I want something I want it now! Fortunately, I am good to stick with it, too.

I have been reading this thread for a few months now. It is a great thread. I enjoy it and I love, love, love all the photos!!
Those Mottled babies are simply adorable! I do love the Mottled....I have Mottled bantam Cochins that I raise and I just got about 20 Mottled Java chicks. Maybe later I will get Mottled d'Uccles. Too cute!

But right now I wanted to enjoy some lovely Porcelains. I am not planning on breeding them but I never know where things may take me. You all sure seem to enjoy raising them. I really just want some cute little pets. I adore my Cochins so these should fit right in with our farm.

I second that! I almost bought some eggs/birds this February, but then my kids kept needing Dr's visits for the latest germ they caught upon starting daycare, so I ran out of my 'chicken habit' money.

I have a question for you d'uccle breeders.... How long do you keep your hen/roos? What is the prime time to move them out of the breeder pen and into the 'pet' pen?

Thanks. BTW. Today I will be bathing fluffy d'uccle feet with their poor broken feathers d/t my sheer lack of regard to keeping them off the hard Missouri clay!
